Firo woke up wondering why he couldn't feel his mother next to him. She must have had another coughing attack in the night and got up to avoid getting him sick. It was surprisingly warm for November.
He sat up and rubbed his eyes, then froze as he looked around. HIs surroundings were nothing like the tenement apartment his mother rented. Cautiously, he rose and surveyed the area, glad to find nobdy. Then he bolted for the door and fled down the hallway until he reached outside.
Panic clenched his heart as he saw a lack of huge buildings, filth and crowds of people. Wherever he was, it certainly wasn't home. He hopped down the steps and hoped somebody would come by. He needed to know where he was, and if he was going to be stuck, he'd need to steal somebody's wallet to pay for food.
