Warning. Ramblings of an Art Nerd to follow.

In 16 days, I have an interview with Brighton University for a place on their Fine Art Painting degree course. One of thirty other places. It's a pretty big deal (getting a place, not an interview.... XD). I am certainly not panicking underestimating it. I have 16 days to decide What It Is That I Like About Painting. And Why I Should Study At Brighton. so far, my answers are as follows.

1. I like painting, it challenges me, every new painting I fight a battle with myself to create something better, something poignant, something pertinent to me, something personal. It's a love hate relationship, it starts off well, full of high hopes, and then I step back and realise it's not going quite as well as I think it is, which causes me to pause and rethink, logically planning each brushstroke, each highlight, tactical steps to improve the piece. But this is usually all for nothing, as as soon I as pick up my brush, I get absorbed into the piece, so maybe my work isn't as perfect as it could be, but it's full of the emotion I'm experiencing at the time, it's this I want to build upon. I love painting, apart from the bit somewhere in the middle of the process where I want to give up, tear everything to shreds and start over, but with hindsight, I think it's this battle, that helps me develop my work and drive it forwards.

2. Heck, I'll work out what the second answer's going to be later. I'm still reeling from the above! It was going to be a joke, but inspiration struck! and that hardly ever happens.

Maybe it will be okay?! haha.

Anyway, today. Today was good - saw two pretty awesome exhibitions (again, art nerdiness, but still, they were great!) Chris Ofili at Tate Britain and The Empire Strikes Back at the Saatchi. Alas, today was also bad, as it was costly and I am getting poorer by the day! Exhibition was totally worth the money, but then there's travel, and I had a massive panic at Sloane Square tube station, when I realised I'd managed to lose my travelcard, and had to buy another one. I know, I'm a massive fail.

Haha. Still, tomorrow's another day. My plymouth adventure. Am going to attempt an ADIML... should be fun.

Off to bake more cakes! At eleven o clock at night...
