He's a grown ass man (YAY) and he has been showering me with compliments (YAY), buuut he's one of those guys that prides himself on being a "deep" individual. Now, this bothers me. On the one hand, I'm not entirely sure that I understood all of that. On the other hand, I want you to think about this for a moment-

Is his inabillity to argue well and make a valid point really a bad thing?

Either a) it bothers you because you want that friction.
Or b) it bothers you because you feel like it's representative of his intelligence...and having professed himself "deep"...he would be, in essence....LYING. eh hem.

I don't think you want to many things- I've thought this about myself too many times to count. Instead, the way I started to think about it is, what's causing me to think this thing? Is it a personality issue that will affect the relationship later on? Or is it just something that maybe bothers me a little that I am able to live with? Or maybe it's just something I'm looking for to bother me?
