Letter to the Daily Wildcat

I may have worked my butt off to come here for nothing. My funding, advisor, cohort, program are all at risk because of impending cuts. Worrying about drops in the bucket may seem in poor taste to my fellow Lefties right now, and this letter will make many people uncomfortable. But it's not education-haters alone who threaten us. I'm not so sure about this. In most cultures which I have at least some personal experience with, academics generally are seen as experts worthy of some basic compensation, if not appreciation. I come from a working class background, and I can see all too well the class divides here, but at the same time this peculiarly USAan disdain for intellectuals is troubling, and should be countered and argued against, not placated.

I wrote that I was proud of Tucson. Fuck that. I'm tired of Tucsomplacency. The only thing good about Tucson with respect to the rest of Arizona is that it's less evil. Not good. Just less evil. Sure there's awesome shit there. Sure I'll miss it when I leave. But it is evil evil evil.
