Woohoo! First actual post. Here are a few icons from years (sort of) past. Keep in mind that my abilities have increased and improved, so do not judge all future icons by these. This post is halfway a reflection for me. Oh, and none of these icons have borders (cringes), so if you would like one with a border you have two options: a. do it ( Read more... )

Took 19, 22a, and 33. It's not every day people make icons with the old art work instead of movie pics. :D Love it!

Nice to see icons based on Tolkien-inspired artwork! :) You might think about posting them over at -- they would be appreciatd there.

Btw, not all the art is Ted Naismith.:) Some is by John Howe, who along with Alan Lee, did a lot of the art for the LOTR movies themselves. Minas Morgul, Minas Tirith, Gandalf walking down the road (used as the cover for the one volume trade pb of LOTR for a while), and #16 which is a reverse of the actual painting, are all art by John Howe.

His web site is:
http://www.john-howe.com/

If you google with his name in quote marks, you can find many sites with his artwork reproduced. :)

I hope this helps!

I figured as much. :) Still think it's great that you made these! Book art icons are hard to come by. :(

Btw, do you remember who the artist is for the art in #13 and #15?
After zooming thru TN's site last night (thanks for the link!), I don't think that art is his, but then I could be wrong. I like to collect net images of Tolkien-inspired artwork, so am always looking for new artists and hoping to fill my gaps in other collections.

Your user icon is lovely. :) And I friended this LJ to keep up with your iconage. :)
