That pad kee mao looks great! It's probably my favorite Thai dish. But yeah, I like mine very salty and very spicy :P

ruan thai in wheaton has the perfect amount of salty spicey for me, but i had it at bangkok 54 in arlington once, and it was tear jerkingly painful to eat. who would imagine something so innocuously BROWN and noodley could get so fucking spicy? don't even get me started on the poo i had the next day. BURN!

i love minced chicken basil too! there's a hole in the wall thai restuarant in san rafael (in marin county - if you know the sf bay area) that makes a version of it and it's sooo drool-worthily good! it's spicy, and i don't normally eat spicy foods, but i just love their chicken basil so much that i gobble that stuff up despite my mouth burning and all! :P actually, i have been thinking about going back there just for this dish for weeks now! too bad it's a 40 minute drive for me!

is there anything particularly special about those cakes that they can sell them for such a high price?? sounds awfully ridiculous to me.

yesss, even though my mouth is on fire and tears and snot are niagra fallings from my eyes and nose, i still manage to shove the basil chicken in!! :D eating lots of rice and dousing it with thai ice tea helps.

well.. the price comes from it being a trendy upscale bakery with cakes made from scratch from the freshest ingredients, etc etc marketing ploy etc etc. :p it doesn't taste as wonderful as i expected it to taste, but a lot of ppl in the area crow about it. if you watch food network, the owner is the host of sugar rush. he gained notoriety as someone who gave up his career as an attorney to bake cakes.
