OK, the Republican Study Committee (A group of about 100 Republican Congressmen) has outlined a plan to help get the federal budget under control. (Mainly due to Republican spending but I digress) Anyways, their plan is pretty much entirely budget cuts to certain areas ( Read more... )

lol at slashing education. Not because it's funny (hate to say it but kids in school today are pretty much "stupid" in the sense they aren't getting the help they need 99% of the time) but because it's Republicans who typically stand behind No Child Left Behind. It's also weird because a lot of states are pulling out of that BS program, meaning the government isn't even going to give those states money in the first place for education. So... yeah. Okay.

And WHAT possesses Americans to slash transportation? I don't get it. o_O Does no one in power here LOOK at Europe and see how wonderful a truly functioning public transportation system works? I could go on a two hour bus ride in Italy for 7 Euro. So I guess about $9-10 and I could take a nice day trip. So why is it $500+ or whatnot to ride dinky old Amtrak? Or $2 a pop to ride a subway? Meh.

It's even funnier since Republicans always complained about how we need to do better in Math and Science to stay competitive in the world market, and the proposed cuts in education are primarily for Math and Science education.

And actually a good portion of the transportation cuts are for stuff like highway maintenance so frankly it makes no sense. And cutting money to Amtrak means they'll go bust eventually since no one rides passenger trains that much anymore so they'll be forced to probably close that area and then raise prices for industrial/commercial usage of their lines raising the price of goods. Huzzah Republicans. :V

Maybe they want to go Libertarian on the roads - privatize them. Perhaps one of THE stupidest notions on some Libertarian agendas I have ever heard in my life.

BUT YOU DO NOT VOTE SO HOW DO YOU COMPLAIN GOOD SIR :O

I just lol at the irony of so-called "conservatives" wasting more of our tax dollars than Democrats have in recent years. Why am I going to vote for someone who claims to be a "fiscal conservative" but doesn't see anything wrong with spending 878653367 billion dollars on a war in a country that hasn't done anything to us?

my grad class that i just finished was on public budgeting. we discussed things like this at length. what i found very interesting and annoying was that coporation taxation was at one time the largetest source of revenue at like 62% or something. Now it is barely 11%, with SS/payroll tax (which is suppose to be tucked away to SS and not touched; however shows up on budget as spendable revenue) at 33%, income tax is @ 41% of the budget. if you ask me alot of our problems would be solved if we went back to taxing corp. but no we cant do that - the executives need there 5.6 billion dollar paychecks.....

Wow. Considering how much corporations make... I guess the fear is that if you tax the company, the consumer feels the prices. But I mean, if your company is making BILLIONS a year, how will being taxed like a normal human being hurt you THAT much.....?

Could you post some of this info? I'm curious when it started to happen that we started taxing corporations less and income tax more. Same with when we started taking money out of the SS fund.
