back in the saddle...

I'm just wondering why you might want to clarify matters with these people, who don't have any right to know what you've undergone. Do whatever you yourself want, is my thought (I won't say advice, as advice shouldn't be offered gratuitously.) Let 'em be convinced you were at death's door.

ah, they're old friends, and i'm inclined to overshare. this whole business invites lots of thought about what means what wrt who's who and why and how and where and what. but you're right, let them eat cake.

PS. thanks so much for the reference to unsolicited advice, which i detest and don't understand why there isn't a Big Giant Rule against it, driven into children like talking with your mouth full or similar cautions

my teacher took me aside and said in a low voice, "did it hurt?" and i was like huh? so he repeated the question, "did it hurt?" and i was like yeah dude what do you think, of course it hurt, they chopped my boobs off, what do you expect (when in fact it didn't hurt all that much at all, the healing is getting kind of achey and itchy). everyone's walking on eggshells, he kept going on about how amazing it is that i'm actually walking around, what a great warrior i am, how brave.

I still get a lot of that after my turkey fiasco. When I see someone that I haven't seen in a while, they always bring that up and remark on how well my face healed.
It's like I don't see the damage every time I look in the mirror.
But they mean well.

i used to hang around in disabled groups online, and a big complaint was being told how fucking brave we are. well, what the hell else are we supposed to do, curl up and die in a cave? i actually had one person tell me he was surprised i hadn't killed myself, but mostly it's the brave brigade. they do mean well.
