When Motochika awoke, it was to a vague notion that something was wrong. His first thought was that maybe he'd slept in too long; if he was late for training then his father would not be very pleased. He sat up and yawned, stretching his back slightly as he pushed his hair out of his face. Then he blinked, and stared, as the world around him registered. Where... was this? It was certainly not his father's castle.

Alarmed, he jumped to his feet, only to stagger as he got tangled in an excess of slipping material. He caught his balance, then pulled the clothing tightly around him and held it there, in place. These were made for a man rather than a slender young teenager. He glanced around warily.

He couldn't have been kidnapped; not from his father's territory. Besides, no lord in Tosa would -- or could, by Tosa's resources -- keep such strange surroundings anyway. He'd long since memorised such things. He crept over to the odd door, then listened for a few moments. It didn't sound like there were any guards outside the room. That was a good thing. He'd never seen battle before, and he wasn't eager to start, though he trusted himself to be skilled enough to survive.

He gasped the handle, and tried pulling -- then tried again, this time turning it. The door opened and he held his breath for a moment, before peeking out. It was oddly silent. But if he was here then someone else had to be as well. Still clutching the excess material to his frame, he stepped out into the corridor and quietly as he could began to walk down it, listening out for even the slightest noise, and looking out for the slightest bit of movement.

Despite what he was often called, he was no princess, but a samurai by blood and spirit. He would make a stand.
