[Tsukasa has sat down and nabbed the nearest thing that looks like an RPG. Pardon him while he minmaxes his character.]

[I hope you don't mind a kid watching over your shoulder, Tsukasa. What are you doing what is this alien technology and will you teach him the ways of min-maxing?]

[laskjdf. He turns and looks up at Onion Knight.]

Uh... hi?

[Whoops, didn't mean to get caught. But now that he has this person'a attention...]

What is that on the screen? It looks pretty neat!

It's a video game. Do they have those where you're from?

[He shakes his head.]

No, nothing like that.

[But he's from one.]

[Well so is he!]

It's... well I'm not sure what the story with this one is yet, but from what I can tell there's a dungeon, and you have to control your character to run through it and get the treasure.

[Just like old times. /o/ ]

[Who cares about story. TREASURE!]

Mind teaching me how to play?

[TREASURE IS AWESOME. Until you have too much and have to go back and sell it. Damn item limit. :T]

[He hands over the controller.]

That button is attack, and this one is shield. You press that one to open up the menu, and this one to use magic.

[Clearly you need the bottomless inventories of Final Fantasy protagonists except it doesn't apply for Onion Knight's original game.

Taking the controller and listening to the instructions! And then he's running around and firing off magic and attacking things in the game! He gets hit quite a few times initially, but he gets better once he starts getting the hang of it. He very rarely shields.]

Is there a way to make your character stronger at attacking? It seems better to use melee strikes, since it looks like magic uses up this.

[And he points to the game's equivalent of an MP/SP/AP/whatever-is-used-to-cast-magic bar.]

I think you can add more skill points once you level up.

[He doesn't say anything about the lack of shielding, even if it makes him a little nervous. Everyone has their own playstyle, and all.]

[Level up--? Oh, this light show?]

What do you think we should add the points to?

Well, if you're going to run around attacking things with melee attacks, you're probably going to want strength and either defense or stamina. Defense has you take less damage, like it sounds, and stamina is more health.

[Hmm. He'd definitely favour strength of those choices. But he's curious to see what this guy would choose. He hands over the controller.]

Here, you take it. We can swap whenever we level up.

[That way, he can both observe and play the game!]

Sure.

[He takes the controller and thinks for a minute... stamina. You can't level up more if you don't survive that long, after all. He keeps heading forward.]

I'm Tsukasa, by the way.

[Stamina, huh... fair enough. It's easy to make mistakes when you're unfamiliar with the game, after all.]

You can call me Onion Knight. [If there is a chair, he is leaning over the back of it.] Are these kinds of games common in your world?
