As a member of the welcoming committee, Mitsuhide had been drawn to the streets by the many new arrivals. The cold weather has ensured that his usual welcoming package had some new additions; namely, a long fur-lined coat and a pair of gloves.
It's a towel that is pulled out first when he spots the soaked young woman. Vatheon is being rather cruel, to pull in its latest captives during the rare period of actual weather.
"Welcome to Vatheon." The samurai smiled, expression reassuring as he held out the towel. "I can answer questions for you, but first, use this. We need to get you warmed up, before you catch an illness."
Mitsuhide looked her over while he waited. She didn't seem to have been harmed before arrival, at least; it wasn't uncommon for the city to draw in those who had just suffered injury.
While she had been looking for somebody to answer her questions, she hadn't actually expected the help to come to her. So, Mitsuhide, forgive her while she stares at you in confusion for a few moments before taking the towel and nodding a little in thanks before actually verbalizing it.
"T-Thank you ..."
Oh, she was shivering. She hadn't realized that before. Kohaku quickly started trying to dry herself off as much as she could. It was a welcome feeling, especially after being soaked for the time that she was. It was only after she got herself about as dry as she could with that towel that she looked up, the towel acting as sort of a hood on her head, with curious eyes.
"So ... this place is called Vatheon? Where in Celirand is it?"
The idea that she may have gone to another world hadn't quite crossed her mind yet. This place looked a lot more like a tourist attraction, if anything.
"I do not know where this 'Celirand' is, my Lady, but as far as I know Vatheon is not a part of it." Mitsuhide bowed his head a little. "This place draws in souls from different worlds and different times; it is populated by people who were brought here the same way that you were. I know it is hard to believe, but it is the truth
( ... )
Mitsuhide's expression became compassionate, sympathetic; he had greeted many people to the city, but still felt that same sadness on their behalf.
"We cannot leave here, at least of our own volition," he said. "But we are not expected to pay for accommodation, food, clothes... most things are free, with only a few exceptions. All you need do is show the local people the tattoo you now bear. It will look like this one."
He raised a hand and used the other one to pull away the glove covering it, revealing a tattoo across the back.
"It may not be in the same place as mine is, but you will find one somewhere."
Mitsuhide dropped the hand to his side and tilted his head. In a moment he would have to tell her about the curses, but first he offered a little reassurance. It was not much, but it had to be said.
"Do not fear, my Lady. Vatheon is not without its troubles, but we are all in this together."
Kohaku looked to the symbol on Mitsuhide's hand, looking to her hands once she had wrapped the cloak around her to see if hers was in the same place. It wasn't, but Kohaku could just barely make out similar markings through the still-wet sleeve of her right forearm.
She looked up as he spoke once again, dropping her arm to her side and offering him a small smile. It was good to know that she wasn't really that alone, even if she felt like it at the time. This person was nice. The others in this situation may very well be nice as well. And he was right. They were all in this together now.
... it was a little bit of consolation, at least.
"Shing and Hisui are going to be so worried when they notice me missing ..." Kohaku sighed, her expression falling a little bit as she thought about it. She knew Shing was going to freak out when he couldn't feel anything in his soma link, couldn't find her ... Hisui would flip out, too. And probably blame Shing.
But there would be time to think about that later, Kohaku had to remind herself.
"They may not notice." Mitsuhide rubbed the back of his head for a moment. "I have heard from captives that were returned back to their own worlds, and then brought back, that they were returned to the exact point in time they were brought from."
Which was a confusing thing to even think about. The samurai tried not to dwell on it very much. In Vatheon, sometimes you just had to accept what you had been told.
"It's best not to dwell on it overmuch, my Lady."
Not that Mitsuhide himself was good at stopping himself from dwelling, but...
"There is more you should, and it's very important. Within this city, we are sometimes affected by magic that is usually referred to as a curse, though the nature of this magic is not always bad. Sometimes it is good, sometimes, just... odd."
All of this at once was starting to confuse Kohaku. She wasn't entirely sure what was up and down in this place, and many of the concepts that she was just now learning about were things that were completely foreign to her.
Something about the 'curses' struck her as odd, though ...
"Curses ..? What are they like?"
Despir sickness? No, that couldn't be. He had said that there was also good to come out of these things, not just bad. Despir sickness had been pretty predominantly bad.
No, definitely not despir sickness. Kohaku was relieved at that, but she also couldn't help the giggles she tried to suppress as she heard about things like raining toy ducks. Imagining them only made her giggles worse.

... so then this was like ... Quartzia. Or to another extent, Gardenia. It wasn't Celirand. It was another place, another world entirely ( ... )
