*blushes* Thank you for the compliments. I've never been inspired by a song before, but certain lines forced me to think, particularly:
'All the wars that were won and lost Somehow don't seem to matter very much anymore. All the lies we were told, All the lies of the people running round, Their castles have burned. Now I see change, But inside we're the same as we ever were.'
I wanted to show Severus as no longer having a direct connection to reality. It's much easier to ignore your conscience when everything starts to take on a surreal quality in your eyes.
Funnily enough, this is how I've always imagined Snape to be. On his own side, and not particularly caring who wins. I don't think that's what JKR has in mind, I imagine he really is a good guy at heart in canon, but it's a theory I've clung to, anyway. I know several people who feel the same.
It's weird...If he really did turn out to be amoral and opportunistic, I'd both like it and hate it. Odd, that.
Anyhow, you've captured that idea very well, I really liked this.

My goodness.
Wow!
I really liked the meditative, nihilistic quality of this- Severus as a pawn in game, and that last line was an absolute killer.
Just plain excellent! Thank you!
