Get to your doctor and have them do a "peak flow test" on you, then get a prescription for a few inhalers: one to open up your bronchial passages, another to actually zap the asthmatic patches on your lungs (asthma, basically, is like a rash on the lining of the lungs, and needs to be treated with the same types of steroids that skin rashes are fought with). Also, search your house or apartment for allergens (mold, pet dander, etc) and try to minimize them. On top of that, stay on a good cardio program to build up the strength of your lungs.

listen to you, Dr. Aubry. very impressed. am i to assume by this information that you have asthma? i'm lucky i've never had any problems like that. i was also going to suggest inhalers. but of course, i can't prescribe those. only you can :)

Yeah, I'm asthmatic. Sadly, I'm no doctor.

But I *do* LISTEN to my doctors, which I think is key.
