I am sorry to hear about your baby ducks dying :( That makes me very sad. I love ducks so much. It sounds to me like it could be one of two things. Maybe the water is tainted with a bacteria that their little bodies could not fight off like the big ducks can. Or someone is throwing rice in the water or on the ground & it is making their stomachs explode. If you catch someone doing that please for the sake of all the other ducks call the animal abuse hotline or a local animal shelter & let them know about it. You could even call a birds group such as BEAKS if you have one in your state or another olace that deals with hurt or sick birds so they can come out & take of of the ducklings to see what is actually killing them. I think you should do that. if you see another dead duck or if there is some still out there, put them in a shoe box & have the bird activist/bird people come out & have a look at them. If someone is feeding them rice it will come back & tell them you would like to know the results & they will be more than
( ... )
awww, that's really sweet what you did about the birds, and they were able to be released when they were healthy and grown good for you the animals of this world need more people like that
Thank you, thank you! I do all I can to help especially when it comes to animals. I do agree if people cared a little more now days then less animals would have to suffer. <3
there is an asian lady that i think threw some rice out for them!
i never even thought about it making their stomachs explode!
i know where she works so i am going up to her office first thing in the morning....thank you so much for responding to my post....i want to do everything i can to protect these lil guys...i am going down to the pond right now and check on the rest!
that's really too bad :( *hugs* I hope you can find out what's happening with them, and save the surviving ones I can understand what it's like to find little animals like that.. it's definitely no fun whatsoever good luck with the rest
bummer about a job...she happens to be married to a programmer, thats how she got into this line of work ;)
those tickets cost $450 and you can only get in if you are in the business but i think if you get in early enough, you don't have to pay....they had a great time there! they plan on going every year now
yeh I know it's "industry only" but some how people find there way on the mailing lists and get to go. They had the new Playstation handheld there for people to test out and it's not coming out till next year.
Just commenting to let you know I added you. You're more than welcome to add me if you like, if not, that's cool, I just did it cuz I'd like to get to know you better than just through your graphics :)
My school used to try to raise baby ducks, but they would never survive, they always looked like they were healthy when they died. Come to find out, there was an additive in the water softener that they used that was killing the babies off, despite the adults being perfectly fine.
well hello again :) i am always up for meeting cool people
i am afraid that it very well could possibly be something that is put in the water to keep it nice and pretty...there lil systems may just not be able to handle it...there are 3 left now and they seem to be doing ok but i am thinking they look a lil listless today....i hope they are just sad and not sick
If this isn't the first batch that this has happened with, I'd suspect it's something they use in the water, either chlorine, or a softener, or something.
It's quite possible that they are sad from losing their brothers and sisters, hopefully some will be able to survive. :)
we do know for a fact that the seagulls attack them when they are first born...we have seen it...and so do the crows, but these guys are over 2 months old now and getting pretty good sized for predators which is why i am suspecting it could be the water
thank you so much for the help....i always get good advice here on my journal :)
