Ganked from someone else's post.
These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, italicize the ones that you own and you mean to read but haven't yet.

Now, it's been over ten years for some of these, but still....

In the last few years I have almost completely lost my taste for light fare. My to-read list is beastly and largely non-fiction/great works of literature.

Anna Karenina
Crime and Punishment
Catch-22
Wuthering Heights
Don Quixote
Moby Dick
Madame Bovary
The Odyssey (latin and english)
Pride and Prejudice
Jane Eyre
The Tale of Two Cities
Guns, Germs, and Steel: the fates of human societies
The Iliad (latin and english)
Great Expectations
Atlas Shrugged
The Canterbury Tales
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Brave New World
The Fountainhead
Frankenstein
The Count of Monte Cristo
Dracula
A Clockwork Orange
The Once and Future King
The Grapes of Wrath
1984
The Inferno
Sense and Sensibility
Oliver Twist
Gulliver’s Travels
The Prince
The Sound and the Fury
The Scarlet Letter
Eats, Shoots & Leaves
Collapse : how societies choose to fail or succeed
The Catcher in the Rye
On the Road
Watership Down
The Hobbit
Treasure Island
The Three Musketeers

Wait, these are the most unread books? My high school English class knocked at least 1/4 of those books off from the start.

I have read (and own) 18 of them, which isn't great, but not too shabby.

In the last several years reading in this country has gone down to a deplorable degree, which is really scary.
