Cleaning and organizing...

Maybe it's the open houses with the staged homes I've been through, maybe it's watching 'House Hunters' and shaking my head at the room people think they need, or maybe it's just procrastination and stress relief, but I'm spending the long weekend cleaning and organizing ( Read more... )

At first glance:
Stargate mag #13 (Nov/Dec 2006) 'Geniuses at Work' (It's AT and DH). I need to decide if I can part with a couple of the issues with the complete cast.

Bless your lil organized heart! I'm right there with you on clearing out things and getting rid of stuff. HGTV has that impact on lots of people. And unloading is cheap. Un-asked-for advice: Nix the Container Store bins. Boxes acquired from behind any liquor store work just as well, are small and thus lighter, and don't cost anything. (But this comes from someone who neither likes to spend nor hold on to things.)

Thanks! There's something liberating with getting rid of stuff and having less (although I'm not going to the extreme of one of my friends - he used to claim he could throw everything in his truck and be on the road in three hours). I'm not a knick-knack person - my collections tend to be wall art and photos. As for HGTV, is it a uniquely American thing that we have so much stuff and need so much space?

I do have a coupon for Container Store and I really don't need that much stuff there - I need a couple boxes for things like my masters thesis and my baby box (all the cards and little things from when I was born) that I don't want to keep in cardboard. I'm a big fan of Rubbermaid tubs for big stuff (partly because I went to college where Rubbbermaid used to be headquartered).

You're making me feel guilty, i've been meaning to do the same thing for... ooo, months (maybe even years) now.

I had to laugh at finding the ticket stub and receipts. I went through my bag the other day and founda ticket for a theatre show i saw 4years ago! If that's what i'm finding in my bag, gawd knows what i'll find in the flat! lol

Ahhh George Carlin - there was a man who spoke sense. lol

I think the trick is to go one room/closet/dresser at a time so you feel like you accomplished something (especially looking at the bags to throw/give away although I then feel guilty at having spent money on those things).

George Carlin cracks me up - especially since we have a chain called Container Store here in the US - all they sell is stuff for organizing, which I think says something about our consumerist attitudes!
