Well, I'm waiting around to see if any of my students show for office hours.  I handed back their lab reports last week and there was lots of grumbling, partly at the low grades (I actually was pretty generous) and the prof's announcement about their second test scores.  Some of them did horribly on the second exam - below 50%.  I have a couple ( Read more... )

Plagiarizing at university = wrong. How can they not understand that?

If you can swing it, go to the Van Con. I managed to hook up with some folks when I went ion 2007 and we did our own locations tour (the creation tour is $200 or more! o_O) and we walked through the woods near Frasure University on our way to Horizon's Restaurant. Felt like I was in the Pegasus Galaxy for a bit. ;D

The students caught plagiarizing were int'l students, so they claim some ignorance, but all students also had to do a worksheet on plagiarism at the start of the semester as well. 11 of my 44 students have Ds or below for the lab portion.

I really want to do Van con, although I'm worried it will be heavily SGU based which I'm not interested in. I'm not sure if I'd want to spring for gold for that, although since there are so many people there I wonder if it's worth it to be a little closer. A friend of mine may not be able to go, so I offered to buy her gold pass if she can't go (and she has an excellent seat).

Are you excited about LA? I'm still debating photo ops.
