SOY "B", Start of year "B", AKA cosplay
31st January, 2010
This day there was a cosplay event held :3 and it was in my very own school.
I had just finish a new tail specifically to let me join the event as firefox :3
So with globe in paw and a bright new tail, i headed off to school.
It was 10am and there were people already there. I was very nervous as I pondered on whether I would fit in. Unlike overseas conventions where furries may crash the cosplay convention, I was pretty much alone here. Majority of the cosplayers in this convention was, of course, an anime/manga/game character. And as for me, I was something that have no exact design. I was Firefox. And there are many different interpretations of firefox. I wondered if people would accept me into the place, seeing that i'm not exactly japanese-related (yes, i know that there is "foxkeh" the japanese firefox mascot).
I didn't suit up immediately. after all, the event hasn't started. Soon Piggy the Renamon came by. We exchanged greetings and chatted for a while. Somehow he managed to sneak by the entrance (pikachu) "guards" and used the changing room inside. I didn't manage to catch him so i used the nearby toilet to "henshin".
It was nerve-wrecking. Yet almost immediately, People started warming up to me. Some were questioning who this strange character was, others stared (naturally), but no photographs... yet.
The gates were opened and a bunch of us streamed in. i stayed out for a while, walking about and avoiding the initial crowd burst. some started to take photos.
Finally, I entered. The place was horribly narrow (blame the ppl in charge) and well... i could barely see in the first place. Nothing out of the ordinary happened (when you're in a fursuit and walking in the convention full of girls thinking you're cute, squealing and photo-requests are considered normal). (oh, and FYI, i am NOT a perv. i'm not interest in girls [or guys] at all).
Around the noon-time, I met some of Pig's friends.
And particularly, 3 "fangirls". Somehow they cannot get enough of me XP
1 was cosplaying as Soi-Fon (captain of 2nd squad from bleach)
another was cosplaying as Yachiru (vice captain of 11th squad from bleach.... if i'm not wrong)
the third was cosplaying as herself, a normal person. XD (okok, so that's not exactly cosplaying, that's just having no costume)
As for their names (or nicknames)... well... i'm bad at names XP
They kidnapped my globe and played around with it. Volleyball and Monkey namely. (so if your internet stops working, you know who to blame). They wanted my head, globe, and tail. So i made them "earn" it by chasing me around a bit. When they tired out, i just gave it to them.
During this time (and times earlier and later), I did break rule no.1, by removing my headgear in public. *gasps*. Perhaps I shouldn't have, but who cares, this is cosplay. In a Furry convention or other events, this would definitely be a no-no. Besides, I can't run about without proper ventilation.
Finally, we found out that there was a baggage area for cosplayers. Apologies to DL to lugging about my heavy equipment until we found the area. And also, there was a rest area for cosplayers. In furry terms, that's a headless lounge. Gah, if i knew better , I wouldn't remove my head in public that often. Over there, we also met some girls who wanted to have a glimpse of the firefox costume, so i handed them the head and they were amused for a while. I would later on in the convention meet them a few times.
Lunch time. me and DL left the resting area and headed to Makan Place to have some noms.
oh yeah, I was in suit still, for the purpose of eating, i removed my head and half of my bodysuit to eat. (think of it like a jumpsuit removing the top half and tying the sleeves around the waist.
resuited back up and head back to the convention centre.
{Oh yeah, FYI, I Highly Recommend that during ANY CONS, Furry, cosplay, or whatnots, Please have a proper lunch. Do not eat Pocky or other snacks just to continue the day. EAT RIGHT. Don't kill yourself from having fun. Snacks are for snacking, not for lunch.}
There I got chased by the 3 fangirls (again) all over the place, particularly the one not in costume since she has the least restricted movements. I may have a short video of it which i would post it up later. At the same time, I found Thomas/Wolf, another fur that I was supposed to meet for the first time, WHILE I was being chased. He asked if I was Vee and I replied, while running away. Told him a quick apology and that I would get back to him soon. (oh yeah, all this while, I was headless, cause it kept coming off and I need to breathe.
Finally, the girl got tired and retreated back to the other 2 girls, and i could finally catch my breath again. Introduced myself and DL to him and we went off to get some tickets and to deposit his baggage. Then it's off to the headless lounge to chat up a storm.
From here on, it get's kinda boring as we ran out of stuff to do. We met Flameber and Gale later on at about 4-5pm. We randomly wandered about and had pictures taken.
Oh yeah, there was a free photoshooting for cosplayers nearby, so i popped by the Lecture Theatre and waited for a short while. Inside there were other people just resting about in the darkness for no particular reason and i initially mistaken them for the queue. Turns out that only one guy was in front (a metal slug character, can't remember the name, but it's the yellow-hair guy with red jacket)
While I was taking the photos, I could hear lots of mumbling in the background, everyone was talking about this strange bright-orange character. After all, my suit is NEON-Orange and it reflects Lots of ORANGEY goodness, making me extremely bright.
I decided to do my "signature pose", lying on the ground and curling up against the globe. Immediately, there were Squeals of "AHHHHHHHHHH <3" and "Kawaii!!!" from the darkness. I wasn't expecting that, but I liked the attention. I'll never have that outside of the fox costume lol.
After that, it's mundane walking about till the end of the whole convention. Taken a few pictures here and there, posed a lot.
Finally meeting up with Pig and his gang. (emphasis on finally)
And again separated
Also caught a glimpse of a filming school doing some sort of project. They hired a mascot crocodile and donned it with samuari armour. They were filming about cosplay i think, as they filmed the part where the 3 characters were heading into a taxi.
And that's the end of the con. Next up is to head out for dinner.
Thomas couldn't join us and pig was to celebrate a friend's birthday, so we left them and headed to turf city (my first time being there)
The meal was Great :3
In sharp contrast to the super expensive and super stupid place (refer to my previous post), this place was Relatively cheap and the food was great. It was Indonesian food and I wished that I could remember the name of the place >.< (when i find out, i'll post it here to Recommend). I highly recommend it. The place is called Manis Manis. Food was decent and service was exceptional. Food came within 5 minutes too. I'd say this place was great.
Finally, it was time to part with the rest and we said our goodbyes. I can't wait till the next time I get to go to a cosplay convention.
For now, I'll be hunting down forums for pictures and videos of myself and Pig.
Overall, I feel that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this con X3
The only problem with it was the narrow corridors and the over-crowded Lecture Theatre hall for the performances (which I didn't watch because f the crowd and i'm not interest much.) I did hear from my bro (who was there) that I was mentioned about by the host briefly.
Cosplayers I wanted to have a picture taken with but didn't:
1) PATAPON!!!! (appeared at the last minute and was busy)
2) KFC guy (colonal sanders or something like that) (I'ma fox after all, I eat chicken)
Note to self: Attend Cosfest 2010, remember to bring an IE logo to eat up. Maybe also cookies. Me don't know if i should participate in the cosplay competition. I know I can't attend the japanese one, but I think the western one should be fine. (I'm still a bit dumb-founded that the last cosplay convention I went [AFA], the winner for the western catagory was a stupid and cheap costume; the red Pacman ghost.)
Also, I can't believe that I managed to type out a post this long. Bet that most people would just skip through it. And if you comment, congratulations for sitting through this long rave.
