Still chewing on Alternalivia's character. I don't think we're meant to read her as a villain, and I don't know how it's possible not to read her as a villain.

Well, her universe really is facing an existential threat, and has been for what, twenty years? I think some parts of morality kind of break down when destruction of one's universe is at stake, and she's been living in an endangered world for long enough (and, okay, is apparently hard enough) that she isn't going for the "uh, maybe we can work together on stopping this."

Granted, she should go for it, as she now knows firsthand that our universe has no perceptible interest in destroying hers. I'm not going to call her a particularly good villain. But I think she's understandable enough that I can root for her to come around rather than for her to be shot in the head.

I will say that it seems to me that they ought to be having LONG CONVERSATIONS using the magic typewriter. I mean, doesn't that seem useful?

Presumably the typewriter has to stay where it is for the quantum entanglement to keep working. So I think Mayor Voldemort of Alterna New York should start receiving letters about parking and snow removal from the dissatisfied residents of the Bronx any minute now.
