I should state upfront that I was too young to have seen Tron in the theatre in 1982. I must have seen it on TV some time later, because when I bought the box set on DVD, it wasn't on spec. I'd already seen the movie by then.

Tron Legacy wasn't a sequel to Tron, really. It was an comic book origin story for Sam Flynn. At least, that's what it felt like.

It is very disconcerting to find myself allied with the 60-year-old characters! I am not 60, nor am I that much older than Sam! (I mean, except inasmuch as Sam's emotional age was about 13.)

Sort of makes one wonder: if you took your average superhero origin story, and backed it up 25 years, what kind of story would you get? How could you wrench those stories out of whack in favor of some other protagonist?
