But look at the progress that has been made. A woman, Hillary Clinton, made it this far in the election process - that's huge. And for the first time ever, we have a black man as the Democratic party's nominee. And sure, it could go the way of JFK and his Catholicism and be the only one to ever make it to the presidency (assuming McCain loses).

But still... think how far we've come. I'm not satisfied with how things went, but I find them to be an astronomical improvement (in such things as race and gender).

Interesting...I don't see how this is relevant, however, given that if Shane's predictions are correct we will have an advantaged minority member "representing" a severely-disadvantaged sub working class (the bulk of the population, as Shane postulates).

"Interesting...I don't see how this is relevant"

Seconded.

A few years back, my grandmother left a voicemail for my mom saying that a women was running for the senate or something here, and that we should support him because it would be good for my sisters to see an empowered local woman in congress. We all thought that was silly that she wanted us to support her without even thinking about what issues she was for/against, but just because she was a woman.

The whole female or black as president thing is just dumb. It would be nice to be more diverse, but that is an infinitesimally insignificant reason o elect someone. I'd vote for a homosexual Black/Mexican with a moehawk and three fingers if I he/she agreeed with my views on the war, taxes, abortion etc.

Shane... Calling politicians "faggots" and calling Americans "pricks" is not the way to persuade people to see things your way. You're only alienating them from what you want them to believe, and you're fueling your own political view's impotency.

I was seriously weighing your viewpoint until I came across these super-emotionally-charged statements, and then I lost all interest in what you had to say. Please consider that.

Agreed. As a libertarian you have the right to call the general populace whatever you want. But strategically, this is a pretty stupid thing to do...

Hmm, aerospace concentrated in the Northeast? I must've missed the memo from when Boeing decided to pack up Seattle and move it here.

"30-70k a year jobs are soon to be a thing of the past"

Not entirely. Whats the one job they cant ship oversees that would remain middle class?

Working for the Government or state organizations. I work in the IT dept. for a state university, jobs like that will still be around. Moreso, as the government expands, there will probably be more of them. I feel a little guilty working for a state organization while supporting Ron Paul... lol.
