"As safety officials sought desperately to avert catastrophe, the government said radioactive material leaking from reactors was enough to "impact human health" and the risk of more leaks was "very high."

This morning they are saying that it is already worse than the situation was at Three Mile Island but not as bad as Chernobyl, because of the containment system.

As one who has protested the utter lack of safe-ness of nuclear energy for about thirty-five or forty years, it is sad that it has come to this. People are fallible, but the things they did anticipate worked reasonably well. Now though, it is apparent that they didn't/couldn't anticipated every possible contingency concerning no electricity/no coolant ( ... )

A nuclear release has World-wide impact. We all live on ONE rock. There is no we and they...

Well put.

As my sons told me, don't eat Pacific seafood for awhile. depending on what has been released there could be even more nasties in the food chain than there are now.
