I'm quite new to this and only heard of seitan last week, when someone linked to a 'Praise Seitan!' bumper sticker somewhere. To be honest, that's the reason I made this meal. So if someday I see that bumper sticker, or t-shirt, or whatever, I can feel justified in buying it. The fun of saying 'oh yeah, we had satan for dinner last night' also factors in. Yes, very mature.
Broccoli and Seitan stew
It was just a regular stew, fried up some onion and garlic with the seitan, took the seitan out and added the veg (parsnips and carrots). Cooked until softened, added a little flour to thicken it, then poured on hot water, a veg stock cube, tomato puree, a little marmite for colour, some seasoning and put the seitan back in. Simmered it for a little while, added the broccoli and cooked it for another ten minutes.
We ate it with jacket potatoes and some lovely red kale. Two types of leafy greens in one meal, woo hoo! The seitan made a nice change but to be honest I don't know that I'll be bothered with it too often in future. Seitan, £1.99 vs Beans, 30p? I'm cheap, beans win!
