This is in response to a challenge by drinkingcocoa to write a fanfic involving Severus reflecting on Petunia and Harry's relationship. I can't come up with a good title; anyone have any suggestions? ( Click here to read. )
Squeee! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I laughed at Dumbledore's line about being otherwise engaged at the moment. (I saw a cartoon once where Dumbledore claimed that while hiding a Gameboy behind his back.) So Snape has a cloak, does he? Hmm....
Yay! So glad you liked it. Oh good I'm glad it worked. Don't know why it's not working on this computer. Heehee. I can totally see him sitting up in his office playing GameBoy... heh heh heh. :-)
I sort of think he does... it also worked for my own devilish ends. :-)
It's interesting to think that Harry almost never thinks of Petunia as related to his mother, but Snape has an unforgettable memory of Lily looking at him with a Petunia-like expression. There's something from Snape's memories of Lily that Harry never gets to see, and probably for the better.
I agree. Harry, of course (although I love him), is a terribly self-centered character... most teenagers (humans, really) are, I suppose. Although he is kind and everything, he rarely looks at situations from other people's perspectives. Therefore, we as readers, learning about the world through his eyes, have to do a little bit more investigating and theorizing (which is partly why I love the books so much of course
( ... )
Oh wow, it's been quite awhile since I read HP fanfic! *has been involved in a new fandom* I especially loved your characterization of Snape! I hate it when fanfics make Snape a perfect, sexy character (crazy fangirls!), but it's also true that he's not completely evil. He has his motivations, and I think you captured his thought process perfectly!
Small error I noticed: "That burning look of distain" should be "That burning look of disdain". :)
