The Hunger Games

Cannot process the season finale of TWD yet.

Still cannot get out of the bed, either.  (This is fast becoming a problem.) I don't like to use my laptop on my bed, so mostly I've been rolling around with my books, Kobo, and/or DS whenever I'm off from work.  I did, however, figure out the way to convert fics (not posted in AO3) into epub files, so I ( Read more... )

When you say The Hunger Games, do you mean the series or the first book? It took me a while to get started in the first book but once I got to a certain point it went quickly and I ended up reading all 3 in a couple days. As for fic, I'll poke around when I get home. I think I found one that was pretty decent that was a post-series thing focusing on Katniss/Petta/Haymitch and how they deal ( ... )

Bah, I can't seem to find the fic I was referring to earlier and I didn't mark it as a favorite.

Watched TWD finale. A couple things stick out to me. 1) Of course Daryl would find Carol. 2) WTF is up with the Walker Slayer/Whisperer? That was a little hokey.

Oh, I meant the entire series. I was the same--I read the first one a bit ago but picked up the rest last week and finished them pretty quickly. The writing isn't far from flawless, but I like some of the concepts, even if they're very Battle Royal-esque, and as far as female heroines for YA novels go, Katniss kicks so much ass.

I have a weakness for pacifist-type characters. And Peeta bakes. That pretty much does it, though boonies is completely convinced that I have a type that I cannot possibly break away from. ::pouts::

As for the Merlin fic, hmm, have I rec'ced anything before? I haven't read anything Merlin-related for a long time, but there are lots of fics utilizing that trope, I think. All I remember right now is this one, though.

Can I just say I hate you and danakate? I really really hate you both right now. It's not like I have time, but now, Hunger Games and TWD have been moved to the top of my "must read" and "must watch" list...if I get fired, I'm blaming you both...

Ahahahaha! What do you mean? I remain, as always, completely blameless. ::innocent::)

(Also, I can't say I'm rec'cing the book wholeheartedly. I liked it, but there are issues, and I wouldn't put it anywhere on my favourite list. Still, I'm immensely thankful that this series is popular among the youngsters. Anything to chase away the literal literary horror that is Twilight. ::shudder::)

I might see the movies, because I really like Jennifer Lawrence, but I have no interest in the books, just as I have no interest in reading Harry Potter. I don't make those kind of time commitments for YA lit.

Walking Dead was pretty great, but I hate the writers for how they make Lori behave. Worst-written character on TV right now.

Yep. HP was worth reading (though I'm not a die-hard fan) compared to the rest in the field, but yeah, I really like Jennifer Lawrence and the movie should be more than watchable, I thihnk.

I'm pretty much the only one in the world who doesn't seem to hate Lori as a character. I'm not sure why, but I don't care about her either way, and I don't loathe her as much as I do some of the characters, so maybe something's just wrong with me or I'm not getting the whole Lady Macbeth comparison everyone's making.

That said, I speak to some of my friends who are causal viewers, not online fans, and they have no particular hatred for her either. Hmph.

I can't take Lori seriously enough to hate her; I hate the writers for creating a character whose actions never, ever make any damn sense. She's just laughably inconsistent.

You're right--that's basically it. Can't say TWD is good at consistent characterization, but with Lori, I have NO idea what they're going for. They're definitely doing the best job with Daryl, but even that's sometimes questionable. I don't know. :/

No recs because you don't like 'em, or you don't read 'em? ::curious::

And thanks! I booked a bit of time off, so I hope to get my acts together, FOR REAL, but those are the famous last words. Ugh.
