Outskirts of Golden Hall

It is a wonder. As if marking territory, the gold of the hills fades the closer to the Golden Hall one travels, the grass returning to its true shade, a shade of such luscious green as to make all other grass within the world seem faded. If the outlying hills were the gold of a monarch's crown, then the hills closest to the Hall are the gems inlaid within. Considering the way various fields of vegetables to feed the populace are situated, then the metaphorical crown has many a gem; the emerald of cabbage, the ruby of radish, the diamond of onion. A faint gold hue covers all, however, as if the city upon the greatest hill were casting forth rays of sunshine for the land to bask within.

The farms that surround the city are properly irrigated so that the constant stream of warm and sunny days may be put to good use with the growing of crops. The water for the irrigation comes from a line of lakes, the waters tinged in gold and yet perfectly safe.

The Golden Hall is situated upon that great hill, the very tip of the hill taken up by a castle of some size. There lies the seat of power, and it oversees the entire area from its summit. The city itself can only be entered from the Phoenix Gate, however, gates which have never toppled, never fallen.

Asmaria:
It has been a stressful past few days. And all because of things that seemed to follow Asmaria and her friends from their waking lives as far as even their dreams. Yet if it weren't for the dream, she might not have one small thing to cling to for hope. Likewise if not for the dream, perhaps it wouldn't have pushed the demon's hand as it did.

But now, three things were a constant in Asmaria's mind. One, that Rosette was dead, and she didn't know at all what that meant in a dream. Two, that Aion wasn't going to stop there, but at least she had been able to reach Lacus in time to warn her. And three, that she had to hurry back to Middleton, despite the dangers now becoming more present in the area due to the Chaos God. Because if... if he wasn't lying, and she had no reason to believe he was, then by now, her friend should be alive again. She hadn't meant to stay in the city so long. She should have been to Middleton by now. But she hadn't had any luck finding someone to let her tag along yet, and while she'd made the trip to Golden Hall on her own, she wasn't sure it was a good idea to return in the same way.

So she stands near the gates again, hoping to find someone who actually was leaving the city. Most seemed to want to stay, but... today would be different, right? Even if she has to beg someone, she's going to get back to the city before another day passes!

Ky:
It has been completely the opposite for a certain black uniformed so-called "Holy Knight." Things were too....calm, here in Golden Hall, the days eventless, and thusly, left the black knight restless. And so finally, despite having told a certain red-haired knight he'd linger about the city, Ky has decided to take leave. He probably could have chosen a better time, but it was now or never, and Ky didn't exactly feel that Adol would miss him terribly.

Ky walks along the deserted road leading out of the city, his cloak pulled about him, although not so much for protection from the elements. He lifts his head as he sees someone up ahead, a brow arching as indeed he finds it queer that someone would be loitering about out here, especially with all the dangerous things that have been rumored to occur outside the city limits.

"Good evening, my lady," he greets, once he's within reasonable earshot without having to shout.

Asmaria:
Golden Hall is a very peaceful place, and were it up to her, Asmaria would certainly stay there. But she promised she'd return for her friend. And once she finds her, they can head there for a while until they know how to handle things, right? But they certainly couldn't just let bad things continue to happen, so even that rest would probably be shortlived. But some things just can't be helped. Maybe Ky and Rosette should have traded places. He'd certainly find his adventure in the other city, while the nun could have done without all her recent troubles. But that's not for this little girl to decide.

As someone approaches, the Asmaria's face looks a bit hopeful, but she doesn't speak up until Ky has actually come close enough to say hello. "Oh! Are you leaving the city?" That's certainly a strange question to ask when the answer should be quite obvious to anyone standing there. But the eagerness in her voice seems to make it apparent that she has good reason to ask.

Asmaria:
Indeed, the young girl's eagerness is quite obvious from her tone, and Ky cannot help but smile at her forwardness. "Actually, yes..." he admits, bowing his head in a small nod. "I'm well aware of the troubles that are supposedly brewing out there, but I feel I'm equipped to deal with such dangers. Just to let you know that my mind is made up, if you were planning to try and dissuade me." He has a feeling the girl wasn't hanging about the gates for that reason though.

Asmaria quickly shakes her head. "No I wasn't trying to change your mind." She smiles with relief that she's found someone willing to travel, though she pauses for a moment, hesitant to ask that she burden someone. "...Please, take me with you!" But he said he was ok with traveling, so he's confident, right?

"I need to get to Middleton, and it's... it's important enough that I can't stay here and wait." She clasps her hands together hopefully, and after another akward moment adds, "I have a little money too, if it's troublesome. It's not much, but..."

Ky:
Ky allows a tinge of surprise to color his expression, arching both brows as he maintains a pleasant smile. "Oh really?" he says, and then straightens at the girl's request.

"You must be truly eager to go, if you are willing to accompany a stranger." He chuckles, and then at the offer at money, shakes his head. "I cannot accept payment for such. As it happens, I am heading towards Middleton as well, so accepting company for the journey will not be a problem. And I must say, you are smart at least, in seeking out someone to take you there." He gives her a more formal bow. "Ky Kiske, at your service."

Asmaria:
Asmaria looks a little embarrased at how she must seem. Yes, really, going with a stranger to another city, it's hardly something she'd have done lightly. At least, back home. Then again, hadn't Rosette been a stranger at first? Her reasons for hurring now are different, but important just the same. She'll take the chance. "I have a friend in trouble, and I promised I'd hurry."

The smile returns though, especially as Ky turns away the offer of money and accepts her request. "Really? Thank you so much!" Just how can the girl stay so naive after the things she's been through? Perhaps it's just her hopefullness and friendships that are pulling her through. She offers a small curtsey in response, not something she's used to, but it felt appropriate to the bow. It's a bit akward. "My name is Asmaria Hendrick. It's nice to meet you."

Ky:
"A pleasure, Miss Hendrick. And now I suppose that since we've done with formalities, you'd like to be on our way." Ky grins, and then walks past her before turning to glance back, expecting her to follow.

"So what sort of trouble is your friend in, if I might ask?"

Asmaria:
The girl follows in step as Ky leads, nodding. Finally, at least she's headed back. The smile she'd had at her relief was probably one of the first ones she'd had in almost a week. It wavers at the question, and she replies, "She... she was murdered, last week. But..." Both Aion and the people she'd spoken to so far assured her of the rebirth in the dream, yet even still it was hard to believe. "She should be alive again soon. Maybe even now." Asmaria takes a deep breath. "I want her to know she's not alone, and I'm sorry I wasn't there to help." What she could have done, she's not quite sure, but that's beside the point.

Ky:
If she's dead, then I'd imagine her troubles over, Ky thinks. He doesn't say this, of course, merely arching a brow at what Asmaria tells him, waiting as she further explains. "Alive again? One does not die forever, here?" More and more things he was slowly learning about this place.

"Well, I can see why you are in such a hurry to get to her then." He turns his gaze forwards, looking in the general direction of their destination. "We should make good time, provided we don't have to stop often, and provided we don't run into any trouble of our own."

Asmaria:
"I'm not certain... I haven't seen it happen myself." But it's something worth hoping for, to see her friend again! "People told me that you will come back though. I guess because it's a dream..." That's right, don't get distracted, just keep on moving forward! Asmaria continues to follow ky, her pace quickening a little. She didn't really want to run into any more of those groundhogs around Middleton, and she had seen that the other city had had some trouble with something as well. What it was, she wasn't sure though.

Of course, there's a bit of a hint at what trouble they may run into as the further along they get, it starts to smell a little funny, and the wind picks up. Asmaria covers her nose and is thankful she doesn't have to hang onto her hat since she left it with Rosette. "Eww... Um... I hope whatever died out here comes back to life soon. It smells bad!" She glances toward Ky, looking a little sheepish. Maybe they picked a bad route, but this was the easiest way to travel, right? Now what is that buzzing noise?

Ky:
The cloaked swordsman wrinkles his nose as he catches a whiff on the next breeze. Brow furrowing, he pauses, dark eyes scanning their surroundings.

"Don't wish for such things so frivolously..." he murmurs, perking at the strange sound that becomes all too clear soon enough. His head remains angled in that particular direction, and he smirks faintly before he turns to Asmaria.

"Best we keep moving. Something's coming," he says, starting forward again, clapping a hand lightly on the girl's shoulder to get her moving as well.

Asmaria:
She can't help it she thinks that way! The thought hadn't crossed her mind yet that it might belong to the dangers out here. But she stops as her guide stops, and falls silent when it appears he's listening for something. Soon she hears it too.

As the buzzing gets closer, in the distance there seems to be a point in those gold hills that looks like it's moving. Of course, that's what happens when you get bugs and hills that are roughly similar in color, it's hard to tell them apart. But soon enough it's apparent that there's a swarm of insects, or at least something of that sort, and they are the source of the smell. The wind follows them, likely stirred up by their frantic movements. But it's not like they're coming straight at the pair, as the cloud of smelly creatures moves sporatically over the hills.

Asmaria heeds Ky's advice and starts to hurry along. Guess he was right. At least they didn't seem to be interested in them though!

But then the swarm decided it wanted to go to THAT particular hill that the two were walking towards, because, well, it was a nice clean smelling hill and it deserved to be messed up! These things did belong to chaos, right? Chaos messes up people's days and does random things for the hell of it. Oh look, two travelers! But they're running away! And that's when the swarm almost seems to emit some sort of angry or excited multiple shout, because of course faeries don't like being ignored. Uhoh.

"Um... I think it sees us!" Asmaria cries as she continues to hurry after Ky.

Ky:
Mmm....chaos *smack* Ahem.

Ky quickens his pace, although purposely not moving too quickly that Asmaria would fall behind. "Whatever 'it' is," he tosses over his shoulder, along with another glance back. Wonderful. The smelly.... cloud, so far that he could tell, seems to have taken interest in them. And pick up speed.
Ky stops suddenly, and if Asmaria skids to a stop after him, he'll wave her off. "Keep going," he says, looking from her to the oncoming swarm. "I'll try and slow them down." Well, he'll do more than try, really.

The smelly swarm only makes more haste as they see one of their two potential victims has stopped! With an evil shout of glee in maniacal unison, said swarm speeds onwards towards the... smirking swordsman.

Asmaria:
How well he predicts what she'd do. Asmaria's not the type of person to simply run off and leave someone in trouble, even if there's not much she can do in the way of fight. Of course, she does still have those cross pegs that she carries in case she ran into trouble with her friends when she was in the waking world, but she doubts they would help her here. And as she stops and is shooed aside, she's about to shake her head or speak up when she decides that he may have a point. Plus, staying any closer to those things was making her feel rather sick. She doesn't want to get in his way after all. So she nods and starts to run away again, glancing back over her shoulder a few times.

The closer they get to Ky, he should be able to make out what they are by now. Faeries, mostly, and riding on bugs and various insects. Man they're ugly. Some of them break off to circle around the swordsman, the wind whipping up around him, but the strange thing is that they don't really /do/ anything. It seems they just want to be annoying! A few chase off after the girl, abandoning their comrades, but the ones that don't seem to be content to simply mess up the surrounding grassy landscape with mini tornado like whirlwinds. Poor pretty grass.

Ky looks at the faeries in disgust. He doesn't let them get any closer than they have, brushing his cloak aside enough to brandish the blood red blade of the dark Thunderseal. He sweeps it forward with an arc of black sparks, and only then does he smirk. "You're hardly worth my time..." he murmurs, and he holds the blade horizontally before him with one hand, stroking a hand over the red blade as if to gather the electricity from it. With an idle flick of his wrist, he sends the black lightning out to writhe towards the faerie offenders. Turning, he moves to catch up with Asmaria, deftly sheathing his weapon in the movement it takes for him to turn in her direction. And perhaps he might smack aside another fae or two in passing.

Asmaria:
Ky's sword... is lightning, yes? Do you know what happens at night when you turn on your porch light? Bugs flock to it! Warmth, light, anything but the cold night air! T_T So perhaps out of an instinct, albeit a rather poor one in this case, the first reaction of a handful of the creatures is to fly towards the electrified sword. With a loud BZZZZZZZZAPPP! they find that sad downside to being chaotic, is that you just don't know what's gonna happen next in your life! Hardly worth his time, for certain.

...but this seems to have upset the remaining fae and they turn angrily after the two as they run on. What's the list of offenses at now? Ignoring them, stepping on THEIR hill, and wiping out half their number! Hey! That's not how you're supposed to play! The sound the remaining pests make seems to express this as they cry out and reform in a new whirlwind of smoke, grass, and smelly bugs and faeries that then proceeds to follow the two again.

Asmaria meanwhile, has made it quite a bit away, but it shouldn't take Ky long to catch up with her. She's trying to cover her face with her sleeve, but still catch her breath, which is proving rather difficult to do /and/ keep her balance. "Hey... that was... neat!" She didn't know he was a swordsman! Glancing over her shoulder again, she eeps as she spots the still pursuing swarm. "Waaah, that didn't get them all!"

Ky:
Ky tosses a grin in Asmaria's direction, but the whining of their pursuers gives him cause to groan. Rolling his eyes, he pivots on a heel, his travel cloak fluttering about him as he turns, whipping out his sword once again. "This is getting ridiculous..." he snorts, a tad disappointed if this was all the fuss that had been made about in lieu of troubles outside the cities. Narrowed eyes glint crimson in the anti-light of his crackling sword, and Ky pulls the weapon in front of him, letting the lightning build up a bit before he unleashes it with a wide sweep of the red blade. "Stun Edge..!" he almost whispers, a satisfied grin touching his lips as the elongated arrow of lightning rushes forwards, directly into the oncoming faeries.

Asmaria:
Ohnoes. The smell is getting worse, now that they're concentrated in a whirlwind of sorts. Unfortunately though, that isn't the best place to be as Ky's attack heads straight for them. The fae try to evade, and scatter, but the lightning blasts through the swarm and burns away most of the creatures. One left, gives a tiny angry shout, but zips away, presumably to gripe to whatever others of it's kind it can find. They seem to be gone... for now? Who knows how many swarms are about. Most were probably destroyed in the attacks on Golden Hall anyways, and the two travelers were just lucky they only ran into the stragglers. Small swarms are annoying at best, but what if you had a city full of them?

Asmaria ducks down before Ky's attack, covering her head, fully expecting to be swarmed over by the faeries. When they all disappear and the smell begins to fade, turning now into more of a burnt scent, she glances behind her at the mess they left behind. Well... at least she made friends with someone who was able to do something about it. Phew. She sweatdrops. "A... thank you. They're gone now... right? Are you ok?"

Ky:
The smell of burnt out fae was only little better than the stench they had when they were living. Ky makes a face, but he can't help but smirk in satisfaction as he once again sheathes his sword, letting his cloak once again fall about him. At Asmaria's inquiry, he glances down at her, arching a brow before he chuckles. "Pfft. I'm fine. They weren't much more than a nuisance, although I suppose we should be thankful that's all we ran into." He smiles, extending a hand to help her up. "We should be on our way before anymore show up."

Asmaria:
Asmaria reaches to take Ky's hand and stand up. "Yes, well thank you anyways, because I'm not quite sure what I would have done about them." She wrinkles her nose and brings her sleeve up to her face again, before nodding and starting to walk on again. She still needed to hurry after all, and even if there weren't faeries about, it wouldn't change that fact.

Ky:
Ky shrugs faintly, turning and falling in step with Asmaria as they continue on their way. He remains ever on the alert in case anything worse than foul fae might come their way. At least that last run-in hadn't really hindered their pace all too much, and the swordsman was quite confident they would reach Middleton soon enough.
