Ehehe. >_>; Looks like even if he won't admit it, Hamel missed having the kid around as company.

Outskirts of Golden Hall
It is a wonder. As if marking territory, the gold of the hills fades the
closer to the Golden Hall one travels, the grass returning to its true shade, a
shade of such luscious green as to make all other grass within the world seem
faded. If the outlying hills were the gold of a monarch's crown, then the hills
closest to the Hall are the gems inlaid within. Considering the way various
fields of vegetables to feed the populace are situated, then the metaphorical
crown has many a gem; the emerald of cabbage, the ruby of radish, the diamond
of onion. A faint gold hue covers all, however, as if the city upon the
greatest hill were casting forth rays of sunshine for the land to bask within.
The farms that surround the city are properly irrigated so that the
constant stream of warm and sunny days may be put to good use with the growing
of crops. The water for the irrigation comes from a line of lakes, the waters
tinged in gold and yet perfectly safe.
The Golden Hall is situated upon that great hill, the very tip of the hill
taken up by a castle of some size. There lies the seat of power, and it
oversees the entire area from its summit. The city itself can only be entered
from the Phoenix Gate, however, gates which have never toppled, never fallen.

Something familiar... What's that sense you get when you go back to a dream you
were having just moments before? Those mornings when you find yourself waking
up, but you're not quite ready to face the day and you pull the covers back
over your head in an attempt to chase after a fading memory. Not quite sure
what it is, when you close your eyes again do you dream the same dream? Or is
it something different?
Maybe time goes by, or maybe it's something you'd never imagined before. These
are the questions Asmaria ponders as she finds herself wondering the fields
outside of the city of Golden Hall once again, almost the same way she did when
she first came here. She'd been here before, right? It tugs at the edges of her
memory, almost there but just out of grasp. The beautiful city, the castle, the
green and golden hills of grass... but wasn't there more than just that? What
was she looking for?
Sheilding her eyes against the sun against the setting sun, the girl peers
around trying to figure out what she was doing here.
Suddenly a hand reached out and clapsed over her shoulder. It was a gentle
hand, one you forwarded by a comforting friend. Then why was a leash in the
other hand. Who could this mysterious fellow be, peering at her from under his
hat. Almost immediately the leash was attached, apparently through some crazy
demon magic or obsession with property...
His caped flapped in the wind was mystery was destoryed by an alll too familar
cackle. He was the bane of her existance..."Got you! Think you're going to
flake out on your bill? It's back to the cage for you!" He lifted his hands in
triumph, laughing obnoxiously enough to be seen by the locals who were either
alarmed or just wanted that sound to stop.
Asmaria paused when the hand rested on her shoulder. She turned around just in
time to see the collar stuck around her neck. What the-!! She flailed and tried
to find where it attached. "Ack-what are you do...!!" Her words trailed off as
her face scrunched together in confusion, at the familiarity of the annoying
man who just caught her. "Who are you?" She knew him, didn't she? She should be
scared that he just slapped a collar on her neck, right? But instead of scary,
he just radiated 'weirdo', much in the way of some other person she knew. What
bill?? But then it started to come back to her, although the memory was fuzzy.
"Wah-that's not what I- I wasn't trying to... What do you mean cage...!" The
poor girl can hardly form a sentance, she's so flustered. So instead she just
settles on looking exhasperated and fumbling with getting the collar off.
Was this really what she was trying to return to? Oh dear.
Hamel adjusted the brim of his hat as he pulled on the leash gently. "Tell it
to the judge. Trying to skip out on a bill is next to murder. So I think I'm
doing a service caging you now before you go murdering people to feed your next
high! It isn't your fault though, when parents leave their children without
values!" He smiled devilishly as he poked at her and called out. "She might not
look like it but she's a menace to this society we all hold sacred! Look at
those innocent little eyes! THEY HIDE HER TRUE INTENTIONS!"
He heard one man cry out, "He's right!", followed by a woman's screams. Hamel
noded all knowingly and held out his hand. "All I ask is a hero's fee to help
fund my just work rehibilitating this youth to the ways of good!"
He started receiving a few thank yous and some currency in his out stretched
hand. He was truely a con man.
Her fumbling foiled as he pulled the leash back, Asmaria's mouth dropped in
shock at his accusations. Murder! She wasn't about to commit murder! What was
this bill that... oh right. Something about ruining his cape or something,
wasn't it? Yeah, that's it. "But...!" And then the people began staring or
screaming, and that was all Asmaria needed to hear to begin flailing. "But
that's not true! I-HE's the one who caught me like this! W-what does a bill
have to do with murder?!"
Oh but how silly she must look. "My parents taught me values! My parents..."
The girl seemed to trail off without finishing that sentance though, moving on
to some other defense. Or so she would have, but she seemed to have simply
decided to let it go, and let Hamel gather his money. She could gripe at him
later. At least she had mostly figured out what just happened finally. Now
then, just how threatening does an unamused defeated looking twelve year old
girl look to you, huh? *sigh*
After finishing the money collection, the violinist turned to the frightened
girl, handing her a gold locket. "You forgot this on your way out." He managed
to knock off the laughing to atleast look at her with a straight face,
loosening the collar from her neck. "I spent awhile looking for you." He put
the leash away and let his cape cover himself.
Did she appear frightened? Initially it surprised and scared her, but it was
mostly because Asmaria didn't realize what was going on. Once she figured out
who Hamel was, and remembered it was just him up to his usual tricks, those
feelings gave way to exasperation. None of that really had anything to do with
her going quiet, but perhaps Hamel hadn't noticed the topic of her parents was
one she didn't want spoken ill of.
At the offered locket, the girl glanced at it, then around at the staring
villagers. If she didn't take it, then they'd probably go on whispering about
her behind her back. It was very tempting to refuse it though, simply on
principal that she did not appreciate that welcome home stunt. "...thank you."
She's just too polite for her own good, isn't she? "You didn't have to be so
mean just because I disappeared though. I didn't do it on purpose!" Although,
in retrospect, perhaps she should have!
Hamel noticed the sudden change in her eyes, adjusting the hat over his eyes.
"Mean? You run off to god knows where. It took quite a while to figure out you
were gone and you think I'm mean? You got exactly what you deserve kid...You
could've been dead and I bet you were happy where ever you went." She didn't
see the anger in Hamel's eyes, she didn't want to. Finding his prized worker in
the middle of town without a notice she was back, without a goodbye she was
gone. He snatched the locket away and turned his back on her. "Why did you come
back anyway? To see me? Heh Well as you can see I've been fine without you to
hold me back!"
"I said I didn't go away on purpose!" Why was she defending herself? Asmaria
wasn't quite sure really. It wasn't like they were good friends, but she didn't
hate him either. She was just always dragged along, and couldn't quite tell if
he needed the company or if he was just using her. This argument was almost
shades of her stepfather all over again, except for the fact that Hamel wasn't
exactly the type to hook her up to machines to make her sing dead people back
to life. He wasn't exactly someone she'd run away from, but he certainly wasn't
someone who was fun to hang around with either.
Hesitantly, Asmaria continued her explanation. "I think... I think I woke up."
She sounded unsure of herself, but hurt that he'd doubt her intentions. "I'm
not... I'm..." ...not happy there. But she couldn't finish the sentance,
because this time she was trying not to cry about it. Whatever she was facing
when she woke up, it wasn't a happy situation.
"Well welcome back." He kept his back to her, peering back when he heard
something that resembled saddness. He didn't exactly console her as his hand
went back to her shoulder but it definately wasn't as forceful as the time
before. Also, their eyes never met as his hand gave her a reassuring squeeze.
"Come on, lets go..." His voice dry and neither evil nor angry. The truth was
he was kind of relieved to have her back. He went into seclusion for a long
while after she left, unabled to return to his home...That story was over.
Flute would handle the kids while he was dreaming...though he wondered why he
didn't wake up. None of these emotions reached his face, which stayed stone
cold throughout the thought process. He waited for the girl's answer.
Did Hamel want to wake up? Without him talking about it, Asmaria wouldn't be
able to know. She quickly wiped away at her eyes as he squeezed her shoulder,
and nodded, following after him. It seemed life wasn't easy, whether you were
awake or not. After a moment, she asked quietly, "How long was I gone?" She
wondered where they were going also. Golden Hall was the most inviting to her,
as it was the first place she remembered and it had a happy feel to it. But she
remembered that they spent a lot of time in Middleton when she was last here,
and that place was more accepting towards her once again companion.
Hamel continued walking as he turned his head to meet Asamaria's gaze. It had
been awhile since he had to care of the kid...brought back memories. "Several
months. Lost count by the second one." It was about then that he gave up on
trying to find the kid.
Asmaria was quiet for a moment, thinking on that. "...waking up you can miss
that much?" No wonder he freaked out like he did. Though his motives she still
wasn't clear on, she felt a little obligated to apologize. "I'm sorry." As they
neared the inn, she waited for him to lead them in before following after.
There probably wasn't much else to say for today, but at least the argument and
strange humiliation was over for now.
