today's the rare occasion when I update...

With lots of important help from Heather, I typed up a sweet paper for my Cultural Semiotics final. I like it so much that I'm going to post it. It's all about the music industry and how they're fucking the consumer in various ways. I talk about file-sharing and how it mostly benefits the artist. It's a pretty informative read, so enjoy.

We have sociology together with Molly, because there is only one Soc. class anyway. It is even my first class. Fun stuff.

I'm a musician and I've been gigging locally (in Louisville, KY) for at least three years. For 8 I have been operating recording facilities (in some fashion) out of my home. Last year I was working through an A&R agency called TAXI. They claim to be independent A&R reps who will listen to your music and solicit it to record companies. I signed up for a year - that cost me $299 + a $5 per song listening fee every time I submitted. TAXI would, ostensibly, talk with various record companies, find out what those companies were looking for and then compile a catalog of listings which they'd email to members.
