I wondered if in 4.18 if Lilith wasn't having second thoughts about being a sacrifice. Or maybe she didn't truly know about her own role until sometime in the middle of S4. IDK.
however... that glint in his eye and the smirk on his face as he watched Dean getting turned into a vampire was just... I don't even know where to begin.
He did seem almost pleased. But I'm not sure about the monster angle. I mean, Sam knows Dean tortured people for 10 years in Hell, which seems to be a fair way into becoming a demon, I would think.
I wondered if in 4.18 if Lilith wasn't having second thoughts about being a sacrifice. This seems like the most plausible explanation. And now I kind of want fic about Lilith's internal struggles and angst about sacrificing her life so Lucifer can be free. But maybe be your right and she just didn't know. I mean, according to what we know from 4.22 she and Ruby definitely knew what goal they were working towards, but maybe Lilith was somehow deceived, or maybe the demons didn't have all the informations, much like the angels weren't aware that Dean was The Michael Sword from the beginning.

I don't think anyone can fault Dean for what happened in Hell (and Sam didn't seem to when Dean told him). It just seemed symbolic: Sam's always had demon blood in him (does he still have it? I wonder if he came back "new" like Dean had) and had to drink it
