Mid-June Update (and standard SYTYCD announcement!)

Tomorrow! SYTYCD Night at the hovel watching the Top 18! Come on over around 8:00-ish (we'll try to start the show a little sooner this week so we don't go quite as late, probably by 8:30 p.m.) and feel free to bring food/drink to share. And I'm loving how many people from the show are on Twitter. Extra fun!In other news ( Read more... )

I had the same reaction to the first episode and also had no interest in continuing, but that was before I'd read the books (which are really, really good!). True, it isn't easy/comfortable/fun to watch at times, but the characters and dialogue are fabulous and the storytelling is really pretty great. I just ignored stuff, left the room, or closed my eyes regularly. :)

True Blood just really really wants you to remember that they're on HBO. So they remind you. Graphically.

Over and over and over and over and over again.

Still awesome, though.

Yeah, I am not good with the visual graphic stuff. Things that don't bother me in books tend to bother me in film/TV. I was not happy with TB when I tried it out last fall but then on a whim watched more and more and it soooooo totally grew on me. I love it (though do tend to kind of cringe my way through the "we're on HBO" bits). It's the characters that keep me coming back, they're so interesting and layered.

I thought it was really good. Of course HBO does stick with their A-typical "lets make this shocking and graphic, and make sure it will never get on normal channels" but I went into it kind of figuring it would be like that. it did make me want to read the books though....if anything to see how far they strayed from the books in making the show.

The mashed potatoes sounded delicious too by the way.

And.....I liked the Weird Al song. Agreed that it is not as good as some of his other stuff (Spam is one of my personal favorites), but I liked the whole Doors thing he tried to do. :o)
