Try "Money: A Suicide Note" by Martin Amis, or "Cosmopolis" by Don DeLillo, or anything published by McSweeneys. The new Best American Non-Required Reading just came out and it's fantastic. I done love postmodernism.

if you go for don delillo, go for white noise
but most importantly, today i reread ghost world by daniel clowes and it made me laugh and cry (much like those ads you see for people who've just come out of plays or movies, do you know what i mean) and it was really amazing and i think reading graphic novels are an awesome change of pace and i just can't recommend it enough (i think we're much nicer than the girls in it though)
