Pls to remember, when considering my response, that I haven't worked in an office since 1993.

I'm not sure that office convention has changed all that much; and given that I've been working in offices for donkeys years and still don't have a clue I'm sure that your opinion is at least as valid as mine (if not more so).

They might look a bit odd for two reasons: the shape and brogueing doesn't make them formal formal, and nor does the material, which looks like a suedey finish to me that I wouldn't wear with formal trousers. (Also, they're black - are all your formal trousers either black or grey?)

They do perhaps look a bit masculine, but I really don't think that's an issue.

Yep, my "smart" trousers (ie, one pair that's part of a suit, and one plain black pair of non-denim trousers) are black. I do have smart brown trousers but I have boots to go with them. If I buy new shoes for work, they'll be black.

In terms of the material, I must admit I hadn't considered the fact that they're suedeish. TBH, I think I might own one pair of leather-like shoes (well, boots), all the rest that aren't fabric, are suedeish. I'm not necessarily looking for funeral-formal, just office smart (like I said, I've been living in jeans at work this past year, so that typically means ballet flats, sneakers or shitkicker boots depending on the season). Hmm.
