I disagree. I think that there are many religion-based charitable organizations that do very good and important work. Unfortunately they get tarred with the same brush as the uber-controlling cruel people who claim to be "Christian".

I'm just now reading a book called "Stealing Jesus" about the distinction between Christians who focus on Christ's message of love (love me and love others as you love yourself), and Christians who focus on religious law (who are mostly interested in demonstrating that no one else is Christian, and telling people that they're damned).

The book you are reading sounds interesting. I like your phrasing I wish I could come up with comments like that.
I was raised in a church going family and I am glad that I was not exposed to all that crap. Some of the kids who attend my kids' school shock me. I think I will catch flies as I stand there slack jawed after they say something mean and "Jesus says"
