Kurama sighed, watching the ferry girls do their job, mostly observing the souls of the dead that rode behind them on their oars. They looked depressed, distraught most of the time. Some were crazy with denial, and some were actually intrigued by the Spirit World, asking their ferry girl what this and that was. He was interested in these reactions. Why did so many souls seem so much alike yet they were all so very different?
“Kurama? What are you doing here?”
The redhead turned at being addressed, and smiled kindly. “I wanted to check up on you. I heard work has been hectic for you.”
Botan blushed, and waved her hand. “Oh, come on, Kurama. I can handle it!” she giggled, flattered that he was worried. Kurama chuckled.
“That’s not what Koenma says. Apparently you were so stressed you lashed out at him.” he said, with a scolding tone. Botan looked down at her feet, ashamed.
“Well…yes, yes I did.” she mumbled, but immediately perked up. “But that was yesterday! I’ve had some rest, so now I’m pepped up and ready for work!” She punched the air, and Kurama laughed.
“Well, that’s very good for you.” he said. “But…I was wondering if you’d like to come to dinner with me tonight?” A blush was scribbled across his cheeks, betraying his smile of confidence. Botan’s face lit up red as she looked to the side, her hand on her cheek, surprised at the heat coming off her skin.
“R-really?”
Kurama smiled, taking her hand and kissing it. “Really.”
She giggled and nodded. “I would be honored.”
