Damn, that was fast...

So...I was no where NEAR 50K at midnight on Saturday. I did however, pass 30K last night, with a solid 8K yesterday alone. My 14-year old is not impressed. (Apparently her "You-Tube-ers" did it in the first 2 weeks and are already on revisions. Bully for them. Ah, teenagers.... they really have no clue how many responsibilities adults have, or how complicated life can get if you have to do anything other than get up and go to school every day. They'll find out. Good on them for writing the books though. (Youtube-ers? Is she involved in a youtube NaNo community?)

I feel the same way about my plots sometimes. As I was coming up with the ending for the most recent NaNo plot, I realized it was very similar in some ways to the book I'm revising now. For me, there's also usually a supernatural element, a coming of age story, and a murder. I tend to have very few characters. I prefer telling stories in first person. I'm sure I'll stray away from this stuff eventually, but I feel like these early books are each trial runs, carrying these same elements I'm passionate about through to the end with different approaches.

Apparently, that's what she does in her spare time...watch v-logs on YouTube. Most of them appear to be random ranty/inspirational stuff. You know, like the kind of stuff people used to post on LJ in text. I guess typing up blog entries is so early 2000s. Many of them have acting or other Hollywood aspirations, and I guess some of them make it big. And I guess while they're not writing their blog entries, they are writing Nano.

I realized this morning that I essentially picked up the character from the novel I was writing last spring and dropped her into this story. They even kind of look alike in my mind. Kinda wondering if I couldn't write her differently, though. Sometimes my main characters are more narrative devices, and I worry that she doesn't have enough personality, and that's why I can switch her into other stories so easily.

We are definitely old school at LJ here, eh? I think it's cool to see things evolve, but it does make me wonder what sort of author platform would work best for me, once the time comes. Some authors I know do actually keep their primary blogs at LJ (and have logged their journey from dream to publication), but my blog here will forever be friend-only and anonymous now. I don't see myself doing vlogs either ( ... )
