(Mini-epiphanies.)

1) I'm not a strict parent, and I'm OK with this.

2) It's OK to be ambitious about everything except my day job. (That's why it's a day job.)

3) I love surf music. Not The Beach Boys. Think Dick Dale.

4) If I were a novelist, it would be totally OK to have a martini with lunch on a workday.

You betcha. My current fave, though, is the Bambi Molesters, out of Croatia. Gotta love that Croatian surf rock.

2) also good. I am very happy to have a job that matches who I am inside so I can do it wholeheartedly, but even so, still gotta disengage a lot.

3) so does my father.

4) My hope for you is that you can be a novelist. And also that I can be one too.
