00:10:19: JESUS. Coco was watching a moth flutter outside the backdoor, purring and leisurely pawing at the glass, then I heard his hard SWAT, and then Coco growling. A possum had appeared right on the other side, smacked the moth against the glass, and ate it. Coco screamed at it for eating her friend and then ran away D:
For some reason it brought to mind this study I'd read about where different (broad) cultures were asked something like, "What if you mean to do something good but you end up hurting someone instead?" One community largely answered that it was the ultimate outcome that mattered, while the other answered that the intention was what mattered.
I couldn't help but think that the latter community doesn't think much of personal accountability.
Wonder where this Burn guy and his supporters draw the line. Some drunk hollering at a woman minding her own business about how awesomely fuckable she is probably means it to be a compliment too, but I don't think anyone would question her becoming offended by it. ..well, maybe this guy would. I dunno.
And it's not like we don't hold all the power anyway, because we get to choose who we have sex with and stuff. (Heard that from a guy in one of my women's studies courses. Such a charmer.)
Also you're online at an interesting time. Thought you had a class? (Actually I'm in Maya right now, but we're on lunch break and customizing my stock rig to look like nu!Uhura was only keeping me entertained for so long.)
With complete admission that I did not see the entirety of the movie that won the OAIF's Best Feature award, both "The Illusionist" and even "Strong World" had far greater standing to win the award than the one that did -_-
(Maybe it also helps that I had no particular expectations of either films except that they would look nice and be delightful to watch, and was not disappointed on either front. Actually the animation alone in "The Illusionist" hit my glee buttons--the lead's little mannerisms, the girl emulating them just a wee bit at the end..! The extras in the bar had more feelings than I do O_O)
(Though I was pretty disappointed by how passive Nami and Robin came off through most of the movie. Sanji sort of made up for it by being extra pretty.)
Something-or-other Mister Christie. They screened a clip for us at the award ceremony, and it was some rough head silhouettes against morphing backgrounds speaking to each other in non-sequiturs. Apparently, it does this for the entire length of a feature film. *shakes head*
Ah, I loved the slice-of-life feeling the movie had, and the animation kept me enthralled through the whole thing. I wouldn't call it a satisfying movie exactly, since it left me feeling all sadface and waaah Tati's been leeched of his inner magic boo world. But I liked his character enough to carry the whole film, and I've always been more drawn to characters than story anyway ^_
