I despaired of that movie once I heard who was on it -_- (Then again, I liked the one with Routh in it, so the re-reboot seemed super unnecessary to me.) ALL these re-reboots of movies within the past 5 years... And of course, Wonder Woman's inevitable failed TV show ain't going to see a reboot in at least another 20 years or something. If AT ALL...
Speaking of movies that are bound to fail. The casting for Akira has been 'ugggggggg' and by 'ugggggggg', I mean: Oh Akira, did we learn nothing from Avatar: The Last Airbender?

I guess I'm holding off until I know for sure that they're not just going to "justify" the whitewashing by making it a localized The Departed sort of deal (because honestly, I'm pretty okay with localization; it's flat out appropriation I get all eeeeerrrggg at). But given that they still haven't changed the names from Tetsuo and Akira, and also this shit keeps happening, I'm not hopeful -_-
And gyeesh, I like Michael Fassbender as much as the next chick who likes some smolder, but holy ALL OF THESE GUYS are not only too white but too OLD for Akira and Tetsuo O_O
Ha-ha, so 'Sucker Punch' was a bust? A friend of mine was trying to convince me to go and I had to insist that I couldn't see a movie where the character envisions herself in a Japanese school girl uniform when she isn't Japanese and doesn't seem to have any reason to wear it. He just smiled and shrugged it off. Overall, I thought the previews looked pretty with the backgrounds, but there was nothing else to lure me in.
At least you didn't pay anything for the movie, except maybe your time? ^^;
I kind of sat there squirming while the girl received Sage Advice from her (white) kimono-swathed master in a Japanese temple and then fought off samurai and ninja mech too, though eventually I just kinda let it go for all the other shit the movie got up to. Like the schoolgirl uniform being waaay more about pedo bait than any weeaboo stuff they got her into. (She's abused by her father-figure, her whole persona/stage-name/theme seems to be about how young and innocent and virginal she is, etc. Undoubtedly it's part of Snyder's whole message about misogyny being the enemy in this movie and blah blah, but it never stops being creepy.) They also featured Jamie Chung as one of the main cast and never did any "China doll" exoticizing crap with her, which went a long way in my book. Oh my lowered expectations...To the movie's credit, Snyder's insistence that (what the gals are wearing aside) he filmed the fight sequences exactly as he would with dudes seemed to be true. And they were really kick-ass fight sequences that didn't drop
( ... )
*shakes head* I'm so very glad that I didn't bother seeing the movie. I was almost convinced with the simple fact that I haven't been to the movies in ages... oh wait, I saw 'The King's Speech' with my mom a few weeks ago, but before that was Scott Pilgrim in August (never saw 'Tangled', but the DVD is ordered). Still, SP looked fun action-wise, but I didn't think I could sit through the rest of it to get there. And I have to admit being very confused by that white guy doing the asian sage character in the preview. Made no sense to me.
And wow, that sucks they changed the ending like that. Obviously the smarter people in the test group were in the minority, which doesn't surprise me as much as it should given how much money the Jackass movies have made. And people wonder why I don't bother with movies...
I was honestly all set up to just enjoy the brainless fluff fun of watching a bunch of ladies as genuine action stars, riddling Nazi steampunk zombies with bullets and fighting robots and junk, because I love that shit, but.. somehow, everything else in the movie just made it NOT worth it for me. I hate that Snyder can find ways to ruin things I'd otherwise enjoy :/
I did go see the new "Jane Eyre" the night before "Sucker Punch". If that's your bag, I'd recommend it :) Certainly some Hollywoodification of English gothic material, like.. an unfairly hot Rochester and probably more making out than is proper... but it was nicely directed and very moody and intense (and apparently it was directed by a local boy--semi-local to me, anyway--which I thought was also pretty neat.)
You could always try gaming! I got into it fairly recently so no need to worry about not having trained since you were six for it. There are also loads of other extremely awesome and pretty games, like Half Life 2 and Bioshock.
I'd LOVE to, there's so many games that look so pretty and interesting that I've been sorely tempted to take it up (like a ton of Squaresoft games). Plus I'm always deep into Katamari when I can get to it at someone'e house. But it's mostly the time and $$ I lack XD
Aww, yeah, that is a bit of a problem but then I did get my PS2 for free from one of my managers when I mentioned I was in the market. Those aren't as expensive as the new 360's and nex-gen games.
If I lived in California I would totally let you play with my systems though!
