Always Assumes Everything is Internal" to the list.

Well said indeed. In the past year, two of my close friends have gone from being rational otherkin mystics, to being atheists who believe all magic is purely psychological, which I find both frustrating & sad. Meanwhile, I'm intrigued by Alan Moore's idea of a world of imagination that can have now direct physical effects, but where thoughts, memories, knowledge, and emotions can be shared between physical & non-physical beings. OTOH, perhaps I simply haven't seen much physical magic.

it makes me wonder whether more people are just not having any success with magick than I think. I could not as a rationalist take a purely internal model without sinking my head in the sand and ignoring mountains of evidence I've witnessed with my own eyes.

Indeed, a number of the mystical experiences I've had have been remarkably convincing from the PoV of providing evidence for magick being something that extends beyond the bounds of my own head.

magick : one's life :: science : the physical universe

Science organizes the application of reason to the physical universe through the use of meticulous experimentation and observation within controlled conditions, confirming its results through reproducible results. Magick organizes the application of reason to your life through the use of meticulous experimentation and observation ... but in your life you cannot have controlled conditions, and you cannot get neatly reproducible results.

Science produces models of the physical universe; models are regarded as strong to the degree that they provide the simplest explanation of the widest range of phenomena, with predictive value.

Magick produces models of your life. Indeed, there are two models that can describe the effects that you get. You can understand a magickal operation as having altered your consciousness, resulting in changes in behavior and perception that produce the effects that you get. Or you can understand a magickal operation as having connected to patterns in the ( ... )
