However, veterinarian Gary Thompson says that the extra investment in wet food may be largely a gimmick.
"Canned food has no real advantage for pets over dry food," he says. "It's a purely cosmetic choice. People like it because it looks more like human food."
That's a rather retarded thing to say. I buy my cats wet & dry, because too much wet = tarter/fat & too much dry = ash buildup in that cat's system/not enough oils. I've been told this by every vet I've asked.
I buy Nutro Natural (not Max Cat) because it's supposed to come from parts of the animals that people would eat; not "beaks & buttholes" -- this whole episode has really pissed me off, because "Natural" brands say they're from another source (there are other natural brands I plan to look into now... by smaller companies, I just buy Nutro cause it's a little cheaper). Not cool... not cool at all.
I've always been told you're not supposed to give cats people-tuna; there's too much salt in it for them & it supposedly ruins their taste buds for other food. I don't know though, I can't even remember my original source; I've never really had any reason to give my cats people-tuna anyway.
