way into it

So I'm on this "program" that is run by the government. The object is re-habilitate me and help get me back to the point where I can deal with social anxieties and hold a job again. I think it could work. I'm on anti-anxiety meds right now and for the first time in a long time I feel more or less free from my anxieties. I even mustered the ( Read more... )

Hey, I'm glad to see you updated and that you're doing ok. Were you anti-Walmart in your letter? I hope so. We watched this: http://www.walmartmovie.com/ last night and I was so angry that I couldn't sleep. I wanted to yell at the TV.

Nevermind, I found your letter! http://www.yankton.net/stories/101206/opEd_566101206.shtml

We'll be in SD soon. Do you think you could head East?

Re: your letter. You must have edited and posted your link before I posted this. Anyway, I will never, ever go to walmart if I can help it. After watching that movie and knowing we can afford to not shop there, I would feel dirty going in there. If someone has a really tight budget and every dollar counted, then I can understand going to Walmart.

You should rent that movie.

Hey, great letter! Like Pancakes House said, check out that Wal-Mart documentary. They truly are the evil empire.

My friend LeRoy just went through that "program." I have to say, it seems to have done wonders for him. He's gained a helluva lot of confidence socially and job-wise. Hope it works as well for you.

And hope we can get together when we're back in So Dak!

Keep it weird anonymous October 22 2006, 05:58:33 UTC
A while back I saw a shirt that said, "keep austin weird", supporting local businesses.

The thing is, like here in Denver, the choices are: Safeway. King soopers. Albertsons. Wal-Mart. If you aren't going to one giant megalo-mania, you're going to another.

...which is why I find myself at costco quite a bit.

I'm trying to patronize more local restaraunts when I get the chance. It turns out, they don't quite have the ad budget that outback steakhouse does. GO FIGURE. Much more, the fast food establishments are almost totally a national franchise thing. Safe for in-n-out burger, which, if you ever get a chance to eat one, you should. They're good, and Tucker Max agrees.

I forgot: there's a KILLER whole-foods market down here that, while a chain, tries to buy locally. That, and Nick's greenhouse does some local farmers stuff.

I see those shirts just about every day. Elijah even has one, but it's too big for him.

If you go to Safeway, etc, it's better than going to Wal-mart. Yeah, they're all big, but it seems to be the lesser of the evils.

Why don't you make a livejournal yourself???

Sam's Club supports 'stress tests' anonymous October 22 2006, 06:02:37 UTC
I don't have my sam's club membership anymore, but on the exit one day, I saw a bunch of people giving "Free Stress Tests". Sho-nuff, they had all this L. Ron Hubbard paraphenelia (sp?) out, and the audit machines and everything.

Free stress-test, my arse.

I found it funny, on the way into wal-mart, they used to have this voter drive for, "working families for wal-mart". I don't see them doing that so much anymore.

At least Bill Gates is on some mission to cure the world of malaria with his billions. I don't see so much from the waltons.
