SGA RPS Fanfic: Forty-two. Joe/David. G.

Jan 05, 2009 21:13

It occurred to me that it's Joe's birthday and that I haven't written Joe/David in a while. Or at least it feels like a while. So here's a story, set today in the "Ever fallen in love?" universe.

Title: Forty-two
Author: velocitygrass
Pairing: Joe Flanigan/David Hewlett, implied Joe/Katherine and David/Jane
Rating: G
Disclaimer: None of this happened. It's all ( Read more... )

"How about sexy? Or hot?" David said, deepening his voice into something sultry. Then he said more seriously, "Or mine."

Oh man, I love these two.

There is something about the absolute tragedy and angst of this series that I love. Yet at the same time they are both completely them.

"This is a geek thing, right?"

Awww. I enjoy the angst and as you said absolute tragedy too (even if this story was relatively fluffy considering it's set during the duration of their affair). What makes it easier for me is that I know where it's going and that they'll find a way out some day. (I might go back to that moment for the current mcsheplets challenge.) I can take just about any amount of angst if it ends well. And this is very angsty.

I'm really glad that others enjoy this universe. It's very dear to me.

Thank you so much :)

I'm the exact same.

Another thing I like about this verse is that, well, I don't generally like RPF for loads of different reasons but mostly because I think these guys are people in their own right with lives that are not ours to play with like we do with John and Rodney's, but you take that life and you pay credit to it. You write it in a way that doesn't dismiss their wives and children but embraces them. Joe asks about Baz or David understands that whatever happens Joe's kids are the most important thing to him but they can't stop how they feel about each other and you write that in a way that feels utterly real.

Thank you very much.

I think different people handle RPF differently and I know some people find the inclusion of wives and children disrespectful and prefer to write AUs where they are single or divorced and some authors prefer to include the wives as consenting partners. I write them the way I do because it's the way that feels right to me as far as the story is concerned (and in my mind Joe/David has as little to do with their real lives as John/Rodney). Their families are such a huge part of their lives I can't ignore them and Jane and Katherine consenting wouldn't work for me on various levels. Which leaves stories in which they are divorced or an affair that neither of them can quite stop.

I write what feels real to me and I'm glad it feels real to you too :)

What ladyoflisquill said..... this is so nice and real without making them caricatures of themselves... or being squicky.....
