THEY'RE MAKING A TJ HOOKER MOVIE? BRB, LOL'ING FOREVER.

And I know I'm what, 15-20 years late or so, but why is the Cardassian Logo an angry bird perched on top of a vulva? It really gives The Owl & The Pussycat a whole new meaning.

On a related subject, my Sarek audiobook fritz out during the very last lines. VHAT THE FUCK? Sarek might just be ( Read more... )

I suspect they wanted to emphasize 'lol this is an alternate reality lol' by having Sarek admit his feelings out loud. And I'll admit that I actually liked it in a way -- TOS Sarek was someone I always wanted to slap across the face. Ah well.

Oh I totally want to smack him all the time, it's delicious. :)

But I find Sarek's characterization unsatisfactory, I guess, just because of the beautiful contrast it created with TOS Spock -- if uber-Vulcan Sarek can admit that he loved Amanda, why is it a big deal when half-human Spock has little emotional moments? I think Spock's moments consequently have a little less meaning in that regard, that cultural tug of war within himself. And ZQ's Spock is a little younger, rougher around the edges -- which I like, it's a refreshing take on things -- but it diminishes his inner struggle for me.

You know, I love the new movie, but truly, the TOS characterizations were just BETTER. So much depth, so rich. And just as much room for teh slash!

Well, I think it's a little early to make that kind of call -- I mean, of course the TOS characterizations are richer, 2009 is 1 movie vs. an entire TV series and film/novel franchise. It's a little unfair to go there quite yet, it would be impossible to create that kind of depth so quickly.

But I really think they did a fabulous job of giving each character a toehold in only two hours, there was a flash of heart and of substance from all the core characters, IMO. Can't ask for much more than that.

Sry to hear about the Sarek audiobook. I'm going to try and find it now. Let me just say, watching Balance of Terror, I realized how much Mark Lenard looks like James Purefoy, in my mind, and how much teh_sex he was. I'm sad he's dead.

And my brother completely pointed out that Sarek would not have admitting his feelings either. Sarek was such a hardass, hence Spock's daddy issues that he finally resolved at the end of ST:IV.

Oh whell. . .I srsly hope the TJ Hooker movie does not get made, for who will star in it? But if it does, you know I'd have to go see it.
