My first race!

May 18, 2008 10:44

Yesterday morning I ran a 2-mile race, my very first of (hopefully) many!

The start/finish line was 1 mile from my house (the course is actually a favorite route of mine), so I walked there at a good clip to warm up.  The weather was clear and sunny, and about 55 degrees.  There were several hundred runners (most there for the concurrent 5-miler ( Read more... )

Go you! The idea of being able to walk to a road race just amuses me deeply.

Congratulations on this accomplishment!

Thanks for being there when I got home! It was so much easier to have someone there to help with Moonchild while E was at boxing. :)

Glad you two had a great weekend!

I can't believe we left my duffel bag in my car trunk on Friday night! That realization was a big "D'OH!" when we realized it (I still hadn't, actually, he realized it!), but it turned out OK.

I had a lovely time with V. this weekend, and always look forward to seeing her and spending time with family. (I'm always vaguely surprised when "compromises" and "bargaining," sometimes with totally implausible suggestions, works with kids. I never expect it to "work!")

I hope dinner was tasty tonight!

hehe, I still failed to mention the 2 bad things that I had to deal with:

1. There was a LOT of mowing going on throughout the race route--fortunately I'm all Nasonex-ed up and it didn't bother me much.

2. I had a nasty case of razor burn and was wearing yoga pants. You can imagine. LOL

Thanks! How are dancing and polo going?

Dancing is going decently. Before my Monday night class, we go jogging. Okay, the 14 year-old jogs, and Eileen, my co-teacher who is a personal trainer jogs, and I start out jogging and then walk. We do about a mile and I'm working up to jogging that entire mile. My achilles tendons are still really tight so I have to stop and stretch but it's getting better. Now if my allergies would clear up, I might actually be able to breathe too. Ugh.

Polo is going good. I'm a bit bummed that someone beat me to the horse I wanted to lease so I could join the club but oh well. The new club manager has horses to lease but he hasn't told my teacher how much he's charging. She also asked if he had any easy horses, esp. ones that are easy to stop on the grass and he said he might have one. I have no clue what they were thinking as those of us in the polo school don't want to play with hyper horses. So it looks like I'll just do polo school again this year which is a bit of a bummer but we have fun and it won't suck away all my time.

Thanks! It really was fun...I'm sure the next race will be even more satisfying for my competitive side...even if I'm only competing against my own personal record. :)
