Klaus Wulfenbach cannot be broken and he intends to show Mayfield just how unafraid he is by going through with what it. What a stroke of luck, that his target happens to be his next-door neighbor; a quick question to his drone son, Julie, confirmed that much.

[He slammed the door shut in Klaus' face, though, quite frankly, when it came down to being rude or having nothing between him and a very large man with a weapon, Waver would be rude every time.]
[He locked the door quickly; an amazing feat considering his shaking hands, and he started running back into the house, halfway in a panic already. Shit, he hadn't thought that someone would find him so fast--]

So he takes the axe to it. It's a testament to Hiccup's skill that the axe breaks through the lock with barely any difficulty; the door swings open easily, hanging crazily off of one hinge. Waver, don't mind Klaus charging after you.]

[He heard the lock break and heavy footsteps gaining behind him. For such a large man, Klaus was a lot faster than Waver had expected. There may have been no point in running, but that didn't mean that he wasn't going to try to escape; it wasn't as though he had a chance at facing him directly.]
[The kitchen table was right in front of him; he grabbed a chair and flung it back toward the hall, trying to buy himself a few extra seconds by blocking Klaus' path.]
