[Oh look who was standing in the room listening, it's your not!daughter with a HUGE grin on her face.]

That's okay papa-san! You'll find the right girl for you someday!

[Welp, Yamame, you get to see your not!Dad do a really great impression of a tomato.]

I don't care about meeting girls, and don't call me that.

Hehe! Papa-san turned all red!

If you don't care then how come you sound so embarrassed?

Hnn. I agree. Totally. I almost wonder if we come from the same place, too.

I doubt it, but knowing this place, there's always the possibility. It's good to hear from someone who hasn't completely bought into traditionalist dogma, at least.

Where I'm from, the mage guilds are all about nepotism and money. Talent as nothing to do with it. Because my family isn't already in one, and has no money, those fuckers would never let me into one. Despite the fact that I've got more talent as a teenager than those jackasses get in a lifetime.

[Guess who's stage four? And pretty drunk to top it off?]

[Well, at least he's not alone at stage four.]

Mages' associations are the same everywhere, then. Mine judges merit based on lineage rather than talent or knowledge. Since my family has only been practicing magecraft for three generations, most of my lecturers barely considered me worthy of letting into the library.

[Oh, he knows that voice/awkwardness.]

Rider's Master.

[Wait. Before Waver even has a chance to react...]

Are you from after the war?

velvet_cake July 14 2011, 20:14:07 UTC
No, the war was still going on when I left.

[He didn't recognize Kiritsugu's voice, but if he knew he was a Master...]

You're one of the other Masters, then?

I was.

[Kiritsugu draws a kitchen knife from his coat. He's ready to cut the telephone cord before Waver even finishes asking who Saber is, or if Kiritsugu's her Master anymore.]

You can continue the war while we're here, but that will get us nowhere. Both of our Servants were likely turned into humans upon coming here.

[Kiritsugu gives this piece of information with three purposes. First, he wants Waver to know that his Servant is still here, even if it narrows the possibilities of who he is down to two (Kiritsugu has seen him interact with Kayneth). Second, he wants him to know that he knows Rider is here. Ideally, this puts them at a stalemate, in what is best described as the magic world's equivalent of nuclear deterrence. Lastly, through not asking him a question, he tries to establish a truce with Waver. As a Magus, he'd expect him to try to kill him if the opportunity to did so permanently presented itself, but seeing as that would put Illya in danger, Kiritsugu would be sure to strike first.]

I'm more interested in finding a way to get out of this town than I am in continuing the war. My top priority is finding a way back to Fuyuki.

[Waver picked up on the other Master's purposes quickly; he was analyzing the information given to him and trying to discern as much as he could about it. Just because he didn't want to fight a war over something that wasn't there while they had bigger problems didn't mean that he didn't think it prudent to take whatever information might be useful in the future.]

[Besides, how was he supposed to fight a war against Servants when his own would never want to regain his status as a Servant?]

[And just as he's finished with that little...confession, she's going to give him a hug from behind.]

It's alright. I have...concentrated on my studies my whole life as well. You are not alone, and it's nothing to feel terrible over.

[He startled when she touched him; Waver wasn't exactly used to anyone other than Rider invading his personal space.]

I don't feel terrible about it! Focusing on my studies was the best use of my time, and I'm more than aware of that.

No, you don't. I don't care, I'm not interested, and I've got better things to do with my time!

[WHY IS EVERYONE SO FASCINATED WITH HIS LACK OF A LOVE LIFE?]

If I didn't know we were all being honest, I'd ask if that was just an excuse for not being able to find a cute girl.
