Boy am I out of it!

I just learned that the baggy pants thing in hip hop culture originated in prisons, as a way to signal to other prisoners that one is "available." I'm sure everyone knew this but me, but I am rolling on the floor right now. I wonder if the hapless idiots I see hanging out on our street corners know what they're really saying with their attire?!

I believe it's a prison style that originated from the fact that prison-issue clothes were often too big, and that prisoners aren't allowed to have belts.

Not sure it has anything to do with nookie, but I could be wrong - where'd you hear that?

I saw it on a vintage fashion forum where I sometimes lurk. A judge in North Carolina was saying someone told him that was the case and several folks chimed in to confirm it. The "no belts" thing was also mentioned, but apparently pants very low means one is a "bitch."

Either way it's pretty funny!
