Okay, time for my Comic-Con San Diego report!
Okay, so, the first notable thing of the day is WATCHMEN KID. That's the kid I sat next to on the plane. His mom sat in the row behind us. The kid was probably...around ten years old. He asks his mom if he can watch Watchmen on the in-flight entertainment thing. His mom asks what it is. He says it's about superheroes. She says ok. The kid is like, jumping in his seat next to me and putting his hands over his mouth for pretty much the whole movie. Oh, Watchmen Kid.
I take a taxi from the airport and meet up with Bon, Mici, and Molly whose con reports are probably all more interesting than mine. Hanging out was awesome. Fables panel was awesome despite almost not getting in. Bill says there will be more Kay in the future, though for all I know that could mean he's in the background shot of someone else's flashback. But hey, I can hope.
Saturday was Repo night, me and Molly saw Repo with a live shadowcast. Bon and Mici left early because they had to wake up early. Some highlights from Repo:
-Bill Moseley screaming I CAN'T FUCKING HEAR YOU if we didn't applaud loud enough.
-Darren Smith coming out during the bandleader scene and doing his little dance number.
-People trying to take Terrance Zdunich's shirt off.
-AUTOGRAPHS from Terrance Zdunich, Alexa Vega, and later Bill Moseley.
Sunday was more autographs (Bill Moseley + Nathan Fillion) and picking up the last sketches from Mark Buckingham. I got a WONDERFUL SKETCH that will be shown below.
Then I hung out with Molly for the next two nights. We watched Southland Tales and Phantom of the Paradise so it was very trippy. (Something just buzzed loudly and scared the crap outta me.) We also hung out with Bon at the mall and both of you guys have way better fashion sense than I do (T-Shirts fuck yeah)
And now for the swag. I like to buy a lot of stuff because it's hard to get this crap in Canada without ordering online and waiting like a month.
Nyarlathoteps! Two Elder Gods for the price of one! I bought one and found another one where the seam on one tentacle had burst and the stuffing was coming out. The vendor man gave me the broken one for free. I'll just position the broken tentacle facing the wall.
An Anubis plushie from the same vendor, as well as a Necronomicon. It's really comprehensive, detailing everything from The Underground River A'zani to The Seventh Portal Leading to the Temple of Albion. If you understood any of that, congratulations, you are as nerdy as I am.
Two stickers! A bumper sticker for the fictional Dunwich, and a sticker from i-mockery.com. The i-mockery one says "i-mockery.com gave me something shiny, now i am happy" in case you can't read it with this awful picture quality.
My Little Cthulhu with screaming victims. I swear this is the last Lovecraft related thing on my list.
You can never have too many Prinnies. I had the Blue Prinny already as you can see, but they were selling the three as a set. It was well worth it as I also go ta free fan, pen, sticker, and CD. NIS is so generous.
I strayed from the path on Sunday and picked up the Prinnies as well as these lovely movies from Tokyo Shock. What have I here?
The Machine Girl: Girl with one arm shoots shit up. I had to get this one.
Tokyo Gore Police: Is the title not good enough to merit a purchase on it's own? TOKYO. GORE. POLICE.
Zoo: What Nathan turned this house into. Five surreal short films, four live action and one animated. I love bizarre stuff like this.
I'm expecting either something surprisingly amazing or awesomely bad. I hope I am not let down. There was a guy at the Tokyo Shock booth buying some...adult DVDs who was really concerned about the titles of the movies he was buying showing up on his credit card. He paused to look at my arm and tell me how lovely it is. Creepy.
THERE IT IS! THE SKETCH. IS HE NOT ADORABLE? What I like most about this sketch is that Bucky started out drawing a bow tie on Kay. I wasn't going to be anal and say KAY DOESN'T WEAR A BOW TIE and bow-tie Kay is awesome too. Then he paused and seemed to realize that Kay does not wear a bow tie. He draws the regular tie in anyways. So now I have a Kay with a bow tie and a regular tie. I am so making him show up somewhere at poly dressed like that.
So yeah, good times, hope I can do it again sometime.
