It's already a known fact that a huge percentage of foreign visitors to Spain refuse to attend bullfights - almost everyone except a large percentage of the Spanish ( Read more... )

I don't want to play down the whole bull fighting thing as it is a grotesque spectacle. Crowds of people enjoying the torture and death of an animal that had no choice in the matter.

The thing is though, the life of a Spanish fighting bull compared to that of the average battery farmed animal is a summer holiday. Fighting bulls are bred free range on huge estates and are possibly treated better than some Spanish citizens.

I think if people are going to try and stop this they need to think beyond and include the bad treatment of all animals. This only seems worse because people show an outward enjoyment at seeing an animal slaughtered. I am sure battery farming would end a lot quicker if they did tours where people applauded and cheered for the diseased animals cooped up not able to move.

The bull suffers for the length of the fight but most animals suffer from birth to death.

I do actually campaign for all animal mistreatment, but I don't usually write about in here so obviously no-one really knows about it, it's just this time I felt like passing this on. I don't think of it as worse or better than any other animal mistreatment, it just saddens me that it's purely for 'entertainment', and was just a personal 'baring of soul' I suppose... Obviously it's just a post on some woman's online journal so doesn't need too much importance placed upon it, it's just there if you want to take action about it but is also quite easy to ignore if you so wish and just move on, with no hurt feelings from the author.
