right hurrPersonality:
As the leader of the original Chosen Children, Taichi naturally possesses several qualities that make him a great leader, even if it took a while for him to truly get there. The first thing you're bound to notice in the beginning of Digimon Adventure asides from his boisterousness is his adventurous nature, always ready to get things started and take action. Because of this quality, he had often clashed with Yamato, who preferred to take a logical and more empathetic approach. Although not always, his impulsiveness oftentimes caused him into making bad decisions. However, Taichi isn't one to sulk about his problems. When he screws up as a result of his own actions, he's quick to not only take blame for them, but to do whatever he can to correct his mistakes - even if he's unsure how to fix them at the moment. Although Taichi never loses his rash way of thinking, he does eventually learn to accept input from others in order to come up with the best solution possible to tackle their problems.
Another problem of Taichi's is that he has a tendency to get cocky and arrogant. A strong example of this quality would be when he tried to push Greymon into super evolving - as a result of his own arrogance (due to being the only child with a crest at the time, and thus, in his mind, the only one who could "do anything"), Greymon was forced to dark evolve into a ferocious SkullGreymon. After that, Tai became doubtful, worried about hurting Agumon again. Thanks to Piximon, however, he was able to bounce back, and he swore to continue fighting with Agumon the right way. He also became cocky when he heard Koushirou's theory about possibly being made up of only data when in the Digital World, causing him to act recklessly without any real worries about his well-being. He becomes hesitant and scared upon finding out that dying in the Digital World is the same as dying for real, though, preventing himself from saving Sora from Datamon earlier than he did. However, he learns to face his fears about his state of being in order to bring her back, which prompts his crest of courage to shine and gives the ability Greymon to super evolve to MetalGreymon. Taichi's crest of courage acts as a strong representative of his character, because Taichi is extremely courageous himself, unafraid to put himself in danger in order to do what is right - such as the moment when he allowed himself and Yamato to be shot with the arrows of hope and light, sure that it was the key to helping them defeat VenomMyotismon. His courageousness and capability to learn from his mistakes are exactly what helps him to become such an effective leader.
It's clear that Taichi has a lot of flaws, but he takes his role as leader of the Chosen Children very seriously. This is especially evident when he later calms himself to act as a good role model especially for the younger Chosen Children, or when Yamato betrays the group and attacks Taichi. Taichi insisted that they had more important priorities at the time over getting into silly fights, a notion he wouldn't have made in the beginning of the series. On top of that, he is extremely considerate and caring, with a strong sense of what he feels is wrong or right. He does have his moments where he can get extremely violent and emotional, though - oftentimes relating to his younger sister, Hikari. Because of a foolish mistake he made as a child where Hikari nearly died because of him, he gets extremely anxious when he feels that he's putting Hikari into a dangerous situation, feeling obligated to protect her any time that he can to the point where he may lash out if someone gets in his way. Luckily, he realizes that he must move forward even if it means being in danger. Teamwork is another concept that he finds very important, and he is a strong believer in never giving up no matter when all odds are against them.
By Digimon Adventure 02, Taichi is much more laid back than he was during his childhood days. He's always willing to act as a mentor for the new Chosen Children, often offering them advice and helping them as much as he can. He places faith in the new children, even going as far as to offer his goggles to Daisuke as a symbol of the new Chosen Children's leader. He is much more mature, level-headed, and knowledgeable with experience - as a result, Daisuke regards Taichi very highly, referring to Taichi as his "idol". (Well, that, and because he's good at soccer, too.) However, Taichi is only human, and there are still times when he's thrown into a state of panic - such as when Agumon is taken by the Digimon Kaiser and forced to dark evolve into a virus version of MetalGreymon due to the Kaiser's evil spiral. He panics, afraid to fight or hurt Agumon - that is, until a punch in the face from Yamato knocks him into his senses. Rather than throwing himself onto Yamato and returning the gesture like the old days, he instead offers Yamato his thanks, and orders the group to fight MetalGreymon without hesitation, since he knows that MetalGreymon would rather be destroyed than be forced into being the Kaiser's pawn. A mature decision, really - one that even Daisuke is not able to comprehend. Daisuke also questions what kind of friendship Taichi and Yamato must have in order to thank each other for painful punches to the face. It's clear that Taichi and Yamato are extremely close now, having moved past their days of immaturity and claiming that they would have never become friends if they didn't fight. They share an understanding for each other that no one else could get unless put into a similar situation themself - which is why Taichi doesn't think to stop Daisuke from getting into fights with Takeru.
In short, Taichi is a character with both strengths and weaknesses that help him grow to become the extremely capable leader that he is. Never giving up even in the face of danger, Taichi is the embodiment of the crest of courage. With the faith he places in himself and his friends, he's ready to lead both the real world and the Digital World into prosperity.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
☀ His courage. Even if he's afraid at first, Taichi will put himself into danger to protect his friends.
☀ His capability to learn from his own mistakes. Even if he's a little unsure of himself and what path to take next, he will eventually figure out the right thing to do and will take the challenge head on. He strives to improve himself.
☀ Responsibility. He takes his role as the Chosen Children's leader very seriously. Towards the end of Adventure, he's able to dish out commands to the other Chosen Children as well as listening to their suggestions for the ultimate result of team work.
☀ He's athletic - on top of all that running around in the Digital World, he also loves playing soccer.
☢ He can be stubborn and impulsive. Although it's a trait that doesn't come up as often these days, he has his moments of emotional outbursts that will cause him to act rashly, which isn't always the correct solution.
☢ Arrogance. He lets things get to his head sometimes, and will act very selfishly and entitled.
☢ His desire to protect others (namely Hikari) can sometimes throw him out of whack, and he often blames himself when bad things happen even if they can't be helped.

[ For the most part, Taichi actually looks pretty calm. Confused, at any rate, but composed. ]
You know, it's actually a little sad how normal it is for me to be waking up in some other world or whatever. This can't be the Digital World, can it? I mean, that lady I met in that strange house sure didn't look like a Digimon... But what's up with her telling me she's my mom? I've already got a mom, and it sure isn't her!
[ And it's not like extremely humanoid-looking Digimon can't factor in here - just look at Arukenimon, for example. Still, he's pretty sure he'd know... ]
At any rate, who's the little guy? [ By Taichi's feet stands a small Charmander, looking pleased to see Taichi. ] Don't tell me he's my... partner? I mean, no offense, little guy, but I've already got a partner, his name's Agumon! ...Though you sure sorta look like him. You've gotta be his cousin twice removed or something, right? [ Taichi laughs. ]
Charmander! Char!
... I guess that's all you can say, huh? Is that your name? Charmander?
[ Taichi scratches his head and looks back at the camera. ]
I'm not even sure if anyone can even see this, but if anyone's listening in, the name's Yagami Taichi. Anyone know what's going on here or what?
Third Person Sample:
Taichi was seriously beginning to feel like Koushirou. Alright, perhaps not to the computer genius's extent, but he really couldn't help being so damn curious about this place! Right off the bat, he could name a lot of similarities between Johto and the Digital World. For example, there sure were a bunch of strange monsters - Pokemon, right? - around the world that partnered up with people in order to fight together, but it wasn't the same. Not that he doubted the relationships between people and Pokemon were any less real than the one between himself and Agumon, but Agumon had been destined to be his partner since basically forever. The Pokemon here were caught and eventually grew to become close with their trainer. Nothing wrong with that, but...
Oh, he missed Agumon. It's true that he was used to being separated from the guy, but at least it was easier when there weren't things left and right that served as a constant reminder of his lack of presence!
There was evolution, too - but the Pokemon actually stayed in their evolved forms, on top of the fact that the circumstances for evolution were totally different! Plus, Digimon were data, and these guys, well... These guys were treated like any other average animal he'd run into in the real world, judging by the way Taichi watched the locals interact with them. Probably not data after all. People, too - people were thriving everywhere. Like this was their real world, a world where they lived together with Digimon. Sort of like the way their world had become with Digimon, what with Chosen Children all over the world. So maybe he wasn't much like Koushirou after all - his head was already starting to hurt from all this thinking. Taichi needed some action.
"Alright, Charmander, let's see what you're made of!" Taichi said to his new partner for the time being - Digimon or not, he may as well help the little guy toughen up a bit 'til he somehow managed to get home, right?
"Char!" his Pokemon responded as they set off for Route 29. The two headed into the grass and quickly ran into a spider-looking Pokemon - Spinarak, according to that neat little PokeDex function.
"Hey, this thing's a bug type, so that means it's gotta be weak to your fire moves! Try hitting it with a Baby Flame!"
Charmander stood there, looking confused. Apparently, he didn't understand the command Taichi was offering him.
"...Or, maybe Puchi Fire?"
No reaction.
"Hmm, I guess those must just be Digimon things, huh?"
As predicted, confusion was the only thing to follow. But this time around, Spinarak didn't wait didn't wait for the two to come up with a solution - he attacked Charmander with a String Shot move, which Charmander had luckily dodged. "Run, Charmander!" Taichi cried, grabbing Charmander's arm and running back into New Bark Town. After a few moments, he pulled up his PokeGear, trying to figure out how to use the PokeDex function on Charmander in order to figure out his moves. Unfortunately, he was still pretty new to the whole thing, and didn't realize he had to be pointing it towards anyone. "Why doesn't this thing come with an instruction manual?!" He tapped at the buttons frantically as Charmander ran behind him. Luckily, they managed to flee from the battle, but maybe they wouldn't be so lucky next time. I should have done more research on Charmander before heading out, huh? Next time I'll have to think more before I act - damn these old habits. Charmander was almost hurt because of me.
He had a lot to learn about being a Pokemon Trainer, didn't he?
